We have contact from time to time and I am aware of his health as well as some personal issues. Like him or not, he could be polarizing, but I have learned some valuable things from him.
I don't know if he will have the time or ability to participate in this forum like he did a few months ago.

Also...despite what you may hear, don't discount free SEO advice. 90% of what I have learned about SEO was and still is free.
Sure, you need to weed out the black hat and irrelevant from the quality information, but it's worth it.

You're absolutely right about learning from free SEO advice. That is one of the main reasons I come to this forum (an others.)
In regards to the term "black hat,"
bear in mind that SEO by it's very definition is considered black hat because you are trying to manipulate your site to affect its ranking in organic search.So, if you write an article and submit it to an article directory with the intention of generating a backlink, you are engaging in a black hat activity by Google's standard since the link was not derived from someone stumbling upon your site and linking to your content just because it is so gosh darn informative that the rest of the world needs to know about it.

True about black hat although the true black hat methods will usually (often) be recognized by Google. I don't mind submitting articles. I do it manually, so I guess I get a little bit of satisfaction that way.
And yes, a lot of great info on this Forum about SEO. But there are a lot of pretenders who think they know SEO. I don't know SEOyet although I give myself a C-.
Guys like Val, Alston and Jeremy know their stuff. I'm sure I missed a few people as that is not an all-inclusive list.
