Do Speed Camera Tickets Affect Insurance Rates?

He might be wondering if the Florida cameras are similar.

I haven't heard of speed cameras and I looked it up and we don't have them in Florida. Only red light. My friend got tagged by a plane on I-4 once and a trooper was sent out to issue a ticket. Lame.

They do something similar here. Red light cameras. They can't put it as points on your license as they can't prove who was driving, no picture of the driver. I'm not sure if they can prevent you from renewing the tag if you don't pay or not.

Where are you at in Tennessee?

Oh, they can get clear pictures of the driver and they do. I've seen many of them from clients bringing them in.

True, but it's still much easier for jurisdictions to go after and fine the vehicle owner than it is trying to identify a driver. This eliminates the excuse "my brother/sister drives my car all the time and he/she looks just like me".

At the end of the day, all they want is their money.

I don't run many stoplights but I do drive a lot in Tennessee so it is nice to know. Is that a state government deal or is it local?

State. Apparently they can't even enforce them. You can just throw it in the trash and ignore it. Now, they had talked about changing that and it may have happened, but everything I could find suggests it is still that way.

My guess is they get paid on a pretty high percentage of going after the car and its not worth fighting the few that complain that it wasn't them as the driver. If they provide a picture, someone may not just pay it, but rather send it back as 'Not ME'.

This is a good guess. I once had one client that was shot (frontal) when rolling through a red light. He went in to fight the ticket because he claimed he couldn't see the light in time because there was a tree growing over the road that obstructed his view of the light.

All the people in the court room fighting their tickets that day that said it wasn't them in the picture were immediately dismissed. Case closed. My client stuck to his guns and admitted it was him and tried to fight the ticket based on his argument. Of course he lost the fight.

The judicial system knows there is no way to prove it's you in the picture. It could just as easily be a brother or friend that looks very much like you.
