Doctor Office Working Against Me!

Exactly. I've had this maybe twice... tell them that Medicare pays first so if the doctor takes Medicare they take anyone's medciare supplement.

Here we had an issue where St Lukes stopped dealing with United Health Care. The first lady to call me looking for a new supplement because she was on AARP/UHC. She wanted a supplement that could go to St Lukes. I educated her that any supplement could/would work at St Luke and that she didn't need to change for "that" reason. Then I informed her that if she was on AARP she was paying from $300-600/year too much.

She's my client now, better educated, and has more money in her pocket.

I thought Lawrence Welk was dead....Ah one...Ah two...Ah three!:skeptical:

He is. Grandma's husband is dead now too. Sex is still the same except she has control of the remote now.

I have had this happen and I make sure with every med-supp I sell the client understands that the doctor does not bill the med-supp company the doctor bills medicare and medicare pays there portion and sends the claim the the med-supp company who then pays the doctor.

Another reason why I find it helpful for the clients to understand this is because they are often trying to evaluate which carriers actually pay their bills and who they may or may not have to fight with. Of course many/most have had years of experience in doing this with their pre-medicare plans so it is understandable. When you explain the rules of the road with them in regard to med supp carriers being ordered to pay by medicare if medicare is paying their share then it always seems to help a bit, usually more than a bit. The question of which carriers pay their bills and which ones you have to fight with is very much on their minds regardless of whether they express it or not. Fortunately it is one of the areas where more information helps. It is not just the T65 group. Seniors may be paying too much for a supp but are resistant to switch because the one they have now has always "paid everything". They often dont have a solid understanding of the fact that these plans are standardized. Again, it is an area where information helps.
