Does This Person Need Insurance / Seamstress

I have a personal lines client who (on the side) alters & sews clothing for people. She's asking about insurance & quite frankly...I can't see why she even needs it.

I mean if she's altering an expensive dress & screws it up...insurance wouldn't cover that would it? Would it be possible to get coverage for that & if so, what would that be? Professional?

Short of the house burning down & losing the material etc...I can't see why she needs it.

the only type of scenario I can think of would be "I paid her to alter my 20K wedding dress, and she ruined it!".

if she had a store front, that would be another thing. but sounds like this is a home based business.

did she mention why she was thinking about insurance? she's got to have some type of liability scenario in mind. otherwise, she wouldn't have thought about inquiring.

Trip and falls in her house by a customer may be a larger exposure (that you can cover with a $200 RLI in home BOP policy).

There are a few programs out there for dry cleaning and they usually include some type of professional. You could try tracking one of those down to see if they would write this and cover that type of claim.
To be honest this is the type of account I wouldn't waste my time on tho. Sounds like an aspiring housewife with nothing to do.

see if you can endorse incidental business on the home to cover the liability of people coming and going.

I just envisioned a zipper blowing open or a seam breaking or a strap mis-sewed and the girls fall out! Or a pin or needle left in and scratching out the boys!
