Door knock on private drive?

I'd try a window 1st. If they aren't home you can be waiting at the kitchen table for them when they get home.

I knocked a door today and the door swung all the way open. I hollered, but no one came. I closed the door and rang the bell a bunch of times in a row. Still no one came. I thought about going in and sitting at the kitchen table to wait for them to get home, but then I thought about the stand my ground laws and I didn't know who should be standing whose ground if things got ugly when they arrived - them, or me? So I left.

Well I guess my question is moreso geared towards clarifying that door knocking in gated/private drives is not considered trespassing since they completed a lead card.

But if a person was cold knocking in these areas that could be grounds for trespassing?

I knocked a door today and the door swung all the way open.

Yeah, I am not going in.

A couple of days ago I went to take care of some service work for a long-time client. I Insure a dozen family members and have paid 3 or 4 claims over the last twenty years with them. I have had a couple too many beers with her husband and ate BBQ at their house. So we are pretty comfortable together. She is currently staying with her son recovering from a fall.

Newer subdivision of two-story homes. I ring the doorbell, I hear the deadbolt throw and this little 5ish kids is standing there and says hi and come in. I take a step back and ask for Carmen. The kids says it's OK to come in. Nope! I start calling out for Carmen. Kid is saying come in. Carmen finally yells to come in that she can see me on the doorbell video.

Here is my thinking. If I came downstairs and saw some mook in my house with my little granddaughter. Shit could get serious very quickly. Or even if it is just a protective dog. I am not entering until there is an adult telling me to come in.

Here is my thinking.

I never enter when a kid comes to the door. I just stay outside waiting fo mom or dad or grandma or grandpa. FWIW today wasn't the only time I've knocked and had a door swing open. Sometimes folks are home, other times not. But unless they are standing right there I reach in and pull that door shut tight and resume knocking.

Back when I was selling vacuums d2d I knocked everything. If I saw a no solicitation sign I was giddy because to me that meant they were weak to buying things. If I saw a big ol' dog it meant all I had to do was befriend it to get to the owner. If I saw a big private drive it meant no other salesman that week probably had the balls to knock it.

Then again I've been bit by quite a few dogs, had guns pulled on me by a few country bumpkins, and been chewed out by the husband's of wives I've talked to that had no solicitation signs up.

How far do you want to go?

Been there done that. Got dog bit last year about 2 hours from home. Tore my pants leg almost off. Had to go to the nearest store to get some first aid. Thank God the owner was correct when she said it had its rabies shots.
