Effective date of coverage ?

I have a disabled lady that has had a suppement for a while now but paying under 65 rates. She wants to change plans and the company she is with. She turns 65 in January. When I write her a supplement, the new supp will be effective january 1st correct? or is it on her birthdate. Don't want to screw anything up.
