I applaud Humana for sharing in advance the new markets they will be participating in next year in the FFM. I encourage other carriers to help us get prepared correctly this coming OEP, with market participation, plans, networks, pricing.

BTW, we would also like more advanced communication regarding commission levels for 2016. A few days before Nov 1st won't cut it. 2 months would be appreciated.

Which markets are they expanding? someone else can post it.

I hope Humana comes in competitively priced in the new markets for 2016 and reduces their premiums in my state (il). They're way too high in 2015. A pity, because the commission percentage is 8%.

Allan the last time I sold Humana in IL it think was in 2011-2012. Chicagoland area will only be BCBS and Land of Lincoln :1mad:

I'm hoping you have more options, too.

The 2nd largest city has 1 real option and a Co-Op. That's not going to work.

Humana is On Exchange in Florida with only a limited HMO network in both Tampa and South Florida; they have a better HMO network in the Orlando area, I am hoping that they use a better network for the new Exchange areas as it will give me a much better option for my clients than the usual suspects-Aetna and UHC>

Humana shares jump amid Aetna takeover report

Health insurer Aetna is reportedly nearing the acquisition of Humana, according to a Bloomberg report on Thursday. The deal could close as early as this weekend, the news outlet reported, citing unnamed sources. (Tweet this)

Shares of Humana rallied more than 8 percent after trading was briefly halted for volatility.

Aetna made a formal bid for the health insurance company this week, Bloomberg reported, in a cash and stock offer, but no agreement has been reached yet. Humana is currently valued at $28 billion and has received another offer from Cigna, the report continued.

Humana stock spiked in late May when a takeover report surfaced claiming that either Aetna or Cigna had made bids to the company.

Humana is especially attractive because of its 3.2 million Medicare Advantage members, Bloomberg reported.

Medicare Advantage is a coveted space," Michael Bernstein, a partner at Baird Capital's U.S. private equity team who focuses on health care, told Bloomberg. "To develop a similar scale in Medicare would take a great deal of work and time, which would be bypassed by making that transaction happen."

Aetna declined to comment to CNBC.

August 3, 2015

Humana did a quick about-face. After filing with the IL DOI on July 7th to increase it's IL offerings, the company suddenly decided on July 28th to cancel all it's individual plans in Illinois at the end of this year and not participate at all for 2016.

The Aetna-Humana merger likely has something to do with this, even though it may never be finalized? Humana could simply be using the "potential" merger as an excuse to pull the plug on ObamaCare in IL, without getting a spanking from HHS.

(FYI I posted the letter from Humana to IL-DOI in the Illinois forum.)

They only had 1600 policies. Probably can't be competitive for 16', and decided not worth the effort.

I'd be interested if any other states got a similar letter?? Like FL

Interesting timing. It was worth the effort on July 7th for Humana. But suddenly they get engaged to Anthem and decide to cancel all plans in the state. But you're right... only 1,600 plans. No tears shed. IL probably is not the only state where Humana has done, or will do, a sudden about-face. If Florida participates in SERFF, you could look it up, YAgents.
