So what is your question? Are you having trouble recognizing when smoke is being blown up your bu tt or what?

Those who recruit in this industry aren't really the same as those who work in this industry. Pretty true of work life anywhere.

So, which ad do you think gets more responses:

1. This is really easy, just follow our proven path to success

OR

2. This is next to impossible, with a minor miracle you may be able to pay your bills.

Re: Everyone Here is Always Talking About how Hard the Business Is. However I Am Constantly Seeing Adds Like this One...

IMHO, this is not a hard or difficult business. The actual hard/difficult part of it is doing the work without being told to do so and having the wherewithall to wait for the payoff. That's what I see any way.
There is nothing hard about getting contracted with a couple of carriers.
There is nothing hard about googling direct mail houses and asking "what's your best mailer"
Pick a zip code and let 'er rip
There is nothing hard about door knocking the leads (not comfortable maybe, but difficult? no) There's nothing hard about calling them on the phone either, but most folks would 'burn' through more leads on the phone vs door knocking... another thread though.
There's nothing hard to finding a company the a client would qualify with for coverage.
What is hard?
Spending $450-$650 a week for the first month with none or very little money coming in for those initial weeks.
Getting out of your own front door before noon
Staying focused while out in the field
Staying positive through the no's.... there will be plenty :)
Taking the initiative to follow up on cases that are pending, not just waiting and hoping it sorts itself out (learned the hard way on that one)
In short, I think the 'hard' part about this business is the self-motivation period. Assuming that if one is in sales or contemplating sales, one would have to be somewhat of a people person and be able to strike up a conversation. Again in my ever so humble opinion, if you can strike up a conversation with somebody and have average intelligence.... you have the 'ability' to do this...... do you have the 'willingness' or drive to do with out somebody telling you each and every day, every step of the way..??
Catch your groove, get a steady flow of leads, and be the tough boss on yourself.
Easy product, easy process, keep your eye on the prize and the light at the end of the tunnel.

In answer to your question about the ad..... ANY IMO/FMO can set you up with a lead vendor (in house or otherwise) and show you the process. Pick one and go to work!
I work with the Life 4 Diabetes group and also have a contract with SNL. I have nothing but good things to say about both. Ask around though, anybody can lay out the plan for you. The hard part is the motivation.
I'm no super star by any means, but I'm up every day at 6, out the door by 9 in most cases. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later.... This isn't rocket science but it will take effort. I'm entering month #8 looking for the best yet! Unfortunately... snowed in today :( Have more time to follow up on stuff and post on the interweb...

peace out :1biggrin:

Re: Everyone Here is Always Talking About how Hard the Business Is. However I Am Constantly Seeing Adds Like this One...

Let's use the 10% / 80% / 10% rule.

There are superstars that are the cream of the crop that will succeed in anything that they do, regardless of the circumstances they are the top 10%.

There are the bottom 10% that will fail no matter what you give them

and then there are the rest of us in the 80% that will succeed in the right situation with the proper planning, and execution.

The problem is that there are way to many marketers advertising to the middle 80, and accepting the bottom 10 , opportunities that only the superstars could succeed in.

Add in the fact that the bottom 10% are the people most likely washed out of 1 career and looking for another and you get the high turnover rate in this industry.

Thanks for the response. So then what you're saying is that an add like this isn't a scam and that it can be done with hard work and motivation? Would you recommend a small carrier like this or working with someone big, like State Farm, American Family, Allstate etc. I am feeling so overwhelmed by decisions and making the the right choice that I am not sure what to do. These small carriers seem to promise the world.

Honestly though this job DOES seem too good to be true. No field appointments? Paid within weeks? This has got to be a gimmick....right?

It depends on what you are selling and how you are selling it.

Still trying to figure out where the adding comes into the equation.

Re: Everyone Here is Always Talking About how Hard the Business Is. However I Am Constantly Seeing Adds Like this One...

It sounds grandios, as most marketers would want it to sound. Can it be done, sure. I liked Central Solutions 10/80/10 comment.
I don't know 'your' knowledge base, but I knew very little of life insurance before getting licensed and out in the field.
If I could write a letter to myself before beginning this it would hit the following highlights.
1. If you can afford to work for less money, go work for Combined or some other large company with great training.
1.a. how do you know if they have great training???? ask the insurance forum
2. I personally wouldn't start out with telesales unless I had a telesales background or insurance background (I had neither)
3. After you figure it out, ask around for a good IMO, jump on that track and run with it.
4. An instrumental part of my training was two days in the field with another agent.

most major IMOs will have this *COMPLETE, "turn-key" training.

uhhhh all you need is the internet *ALL needed systems and platforms provided.

leads provided = reduced commissions or they point you in the right direction to get the leads... in either case, this forum can point you in the right direction for free *ALL qualified leads provided. . . NO cold-calling!

I have a fax line for 6.95/mo other than that??? there's no back office costs, at least not for me - companies supply brochures and stuff for free, maybe some postage..?? *ALL "back-office" processing costs fully paid.

ANY self employed job is full time or part time, you pick the hours *Full-time & part-time available.

This is the same with most IMOs and companies. *Outstanding, FAST commissions with advancing and immediate vesting. Daily & weekly pay!

there are group discounts to be had for some services at just about any IMO I would guess *Agent benefit packages.

again, same with anybody. *Fast advancement to management, for those who qualify.

I'm not saying anything good or bad about this particular ad. I don't know who it is. I'm just translating a little :)

If you contact them and get a name, you could do a search on the forum and see if there's any info on them..

Re: Everyone Here is Always Talking About how Hard the Business Is. However I Am Constantly Seeing Adds Like this One...

Great thanks for the feedback. I don't know which company it is either. I think you're right about getting some great training from a large company and then going to an IMO.
