Facebook "Boost Post" Experiment

So I tried a little experiment with Facebook promotions yesterday and thought I would post the results in case anyone was interested. I've been thinking about using their "boost post" function, so I gave it a try just to see what would happen.

I made the audience men and women between 25 and 55 who live in my State. I set the budget at $30 and the time at one day. The post was a link to a story about all the records that were set or tied in the Super Bowl.

The results over 24 hours:

8,412 people saw the post
779 people clicked the link
19 people "liked" the post
1 new person liked my business page

Considering this was just a "hey, let's see what happens" kind of thing, not targeted, with no attention getting picture or wording, and with no call to action, I'm pretty surprised at the results. I think if I were to actually put some effort in to coming up with something to catch peoples attention and gently nudge them in the direction of doing business with me, it might be worth spending a couple hundred bucks a month for a while to see what happens. It seems to have a little more potential than the simple page ads that appear on the right hand side of peoples news feeds.

Has anyone else tried this out? Had any luck?

I have not tried it yet but the key to me is how much business have you gotten from the boost? Also I may not have many likes but the majority of my likes are from clients I am not fond of getting a ton of likes and comments from clients that I will never be able to write because they are not from my state. That is what has prevented me from trying the boost. Yes it does help bump you up in the SEO rankings but what is the ROI for the price of the boost is the real question.

Ever try free marketing strategies? I use them all the time and it works well. You really have to have deep pockets when you try to keep up with AIG and Prudential.

I agree 100% with that article. Facebook ads are an outright scam!

One of these days, FB is going to get hit with a huge class action lawsuit.

FB may be able to fool some people, but they can't fool google analytics.

You can't charge people for 10-15 clicks a day when they're really only getting 1 or 2 clicks (not to mention the fact that they will run unauthorized charges on your credit card).

I hope they get sued and lose their ass on this!:goofy:

Thank you for sharing that link. I am always looking for easy and inexpensive ways to be seen on searches.
