Final Rule on Marketplace Navigators and Non-Navigator Assistance Programs

I received an email from my IMO that CMS and company have a final version of the navigator position
The report is 146 pages long (wonder how much that report cost taxpayers) and still doesn't answer many questions.
I live in Pennsylvania and Pa is going to have a federal run exchange. I am pretty new to the health side and was wondering if it would be worth it to become a navigator, and if so how would I do it?
I am sure this type of question has been all over the boards so if you could direct me where to look I would be appreciative

$2.1MM was set aside for PA navigator entities, split between one for-profit and one not-for-profit entity. You would have to contact them and get through their process, they should be selected and announced by Aug 1. There will be some training involved, and there is certainly competition. Being bi- or tri- lingual will pop you to the top of the list.

Whether it's worth it, we don't know, we still don't know navigators will be compensated. Heck, in PA, they still haven't decided who the navigator entities are or how individual navigators will be trained or credentialed.

Hopefully after say option 4 that option 5 would be for other languages and you could phone type the language.

Or even better, this sophisticated new system will simply allow someone to speak the name of the language they want, and it will direct him/her to the appropriate individual.

I wonder if HHS will actually have this many people staffing a huge call center? Would have to be thousands. As of today, 1-800-318-2596 only has English and Spanish available.

Dont worry, soon it will be just spanish.:swoon:
 
From what I've heard in the rumor mill, English and Spanish are the two supported languages (starts in english with a "presar dos para espanol" prompt in the beginning).

Anything else will have to be requested once the person can't understand you. They're going to have to have people that can at least tell languages apart. Not everyone happens to know that "deutsch" is "German", or can tell Korean from Vietnamese on pronunciation alone (especially as they yell over the phone in frustration).
