I just passed my LA&H state exam,AHIP and obtained my E&O insurance. Should I go through a FMO or directly to a large corp.Humana or UHC?

You can't go direct to either of those carriers for MA plans. If you would like, I'll help you find an FMO.

Drop me an email with your phone number at insure(at)greensky (dot) com.

Hey MBS,

You CAN most certainly go direct with UHC. Please email me direct and I will get you contact info for management in Alabama. They have a good ICA manager in Mobile I'll put you in contact with.

Why would you say you can't Greenskye? There are thousands of ICA's working with UHC and NO ONE, repeat NO ONE is between us and our commissions, thank you berry berry much. (Terrible Columbian Accent, I know!)

Thanks Atilla, makes more sense to get your commissions direct

do your research yourself before you decide to go "direct." Your commission level can be different as well as any support you may receive. There are benefits to going direct and benefits to going with a group. Either way, I suggest you get paid direct, but I don't always suggest you get a direct contract. Sometimes there is great benefit in contracting through others.

If you are going to recommend going ICA you should spell it out: Independent Career Agent with the emphasis on "Career".... You will be asked to sign an exclusive contract that pretty much negates the "Independent" portion.

It really depends on how much support you are lookig for. If you want sales training and leads and lot's of hand holding at a reduced commission level then go the career/captive agent route with an agency or carrier. If you need less support but still would be interested in lead programs, sales/quoting support going with an FMO would be beneficial. If you don't need any support at all there are some carriers and products that youcanget direct contracts with but sometimes you may have to work with an FMO if the carrier does not appoint direct.

We have a career agent division and a brokerage division so we have pretty much the whole array available. It just really depends on what you are looking for. Either way choose carriers and FMO's based on who you are comfortable with and provides the best service. Well that and great commissions ;-)

The ICA program requires the agent to be exclusive to UHC. You can, or course, cheat but insurance agents would never do that.

What part of "independent" do you not understand?
