Fraternal Benefit Society

Do you Fraternal "Canada" Haters say the say the same thing about Labatts Blue. I still like the beer....and it is Canadian.....HMMMM

:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I'm definitely not a Canada hater. I've vacationed there twice. And I don't hate fraternals.

I just accept that they have an area of their design that is seen as a weakness whether it is or not.

My only real beef with The Big F is how the employees in their death claim department handled a handicapped client of mine filing a death claim several years ago. And other customer service issues that seemed to be handled poorly.

Many agents have told me they have had much better experiences with them. I suppose my one small sample experience might not represent the whole company.

Ha. Not a Fraternal or Canadian hater. I sell Fraternal s and have been to Canada skiing. Years ago I sold a bunch of Foresters but don't right now. I even love Michigan. The state not the school. I worked in Michigan and have been skiing, snowmobiling and drinking all over the state so I know they have much better beer there then LaBatts. Look around.

Yes, I see your point and I cannot defend their poor service history the past few years.

I am just dulled to the pain as I have sold Health policies for 25 years and constant claims issues have always been in my face.

Most contestable claims issues I have found to be the beneficiary's slow response times to inquiries by the company. Most are done in writing and the Bene's never know too much about the insured's health condition the prior two years or what was asked/answered on an application. All this will make any company a pain in the a.... to deal with during a contestable claim.

I seem to recall a small fraternal in PA running into serious financial trouble. Maybe not bankruptcy, but certainly financial trouble.

Oh, and ask Peter about what the Maine DOI says. Apparently you can't use mentioning lack of state guaranty fund when selling against a fraternal, but you are supposed to mention it when selling a fraternal. Rather bi-polar.

Bipolar is right. The DOI came out and stated when selling a Fraternal you should disclose they are not covered by the state guarantee fund....The issue is if you happen to be independent like most of us, the issue is if the client asks a question about the EVA and it eventually leads to you selling a nonfraternal did the agent just use the SGA to sell a nonfraternal as its a no no to mention the SGA when selling a nonfraternal.

But then again Maine made it illegal to show up on a seniors door unannounced ie door knocking however it is legal to go down the street and knock 1 door after the other it just illegal to Target a seniors door...So can anyone tell me what a senior door looks like?

Ohio now has a form that must be signed disclosing that Fraternals are not covered by the state fund and that the cert holder can be assessed "if there is an impairment of reserves".

You can't bring up the fund if you are selling a non-fraternal but you could offer the client both the fraternal and non-fraternal and then you would have to discuss the fund.
