Getting Goofy Now

The Dem's need Robert Byrd to get to 60. He has missed every vote since Sunday. He was wheeled on to the Senate floor around midnight when the Senate reconvened and was met with a standing ovation.

Something is in the wind.

I don't suppose it is possible to challenge his vote on the grounds of mental incompetence.

I think the dems are beginning to think that Lieberman, Collins, and Snowe were not really reliable "democrats" to begin with.

No question Lieberman has been a difficult child but if the dems have this huge majority and end out having to go around with a begging bowl and flipping over rocks to look for votes then whose fault is that? Lieberman's or Snowe's? No matter, it is Nelson's fifteen minutes of fame now.

Don't think Roland Burris is going to lose out on a chance to get the same attention by getting goofy and saying the bill is not lib enough for him. He is looking to get a little respect somehow. He will be registering on the goof-ometer before long. Plus it is a given that the Chicago and Louisiana politicians always need a little pocket money to help them make up their minds.

How is that bipartisanship coming along? Didn't see much on C-Span.

Of course the Dems are still pointing fingers at the Rep's saying it is THEIR fault this thing hasn't passed yet.

I don't much like "somarco" nor do I think he gives good insurance advice on this board...?

You guys smell something ...?
Fear I think that is.
It's back.
Good ol' "six figure what's his name ..."
Been away from the reform area of the forum for awhile.
It must know the time is at hand.
We are almost through with you and your *** posse's little brigand insurgence Alvin.
Doesn't look like there is gonna be that special something under the tree does there?
You will all have to try and find something else to destroy, I mean take over ... and then destroy for a while.

I don't see this bill being defeated before the first of the year even if it does not pass by the first of the year. All of the votes they are looking for with the exception of maybe one or two are dem votes. That is the job of the majority whip to make sure that it does not come up for a vote unless the head count is there. If the votes arent there, then they should roll it out into January. They have nothing to lose and unlike the house, the senate does not have that many bodies to keep track of so they should know what is what if they allow it to come up for a vote. Rolling it out into January is not pretty either because the bill weakens the longer it stews in the pot and people look it over- but it is better than an outright defeat.

On the other hand there are a couple votes in there, Olympia is one of them, who you might pick up along the way if the process is more thorough and deliberate. She is flat out against this rush-job and the fact that no one has seen or read the bill. She has said that her constitutents wont let her get by with that and we won't. Anyway, that's the dem's problem. January is whole new mind-set though. People are tired of the health reform circus and thinking about the economy, the national debt, and the fact that immigration needs to be addressed and, oh yeh, elections coming up.

Also, this thing has to go back to the house and if the house does not accept the exact version that the senate proposed then the senate has to vote on it again too (they could use reconciliation on some revenue things I suppose but abortion, public option and medicare cuts etc are substantive program changes which you cannot alter by reconciliation).

This thing is either going to spin for a while or just keep weakening until they are able to pass it because there is nothing left in it. Either way, the public is about to have something that is foisted upon them that the libs and the conservatives hate. Oy!

Passing this bill only kicks it over to the house. So the house is going to digest the senate version all in one gulp and the whole enchilada is going to be on Obama's desk for signature by the end of the year. Err......I don't think so.

Quick question for Pelosi and Harry Reid: Having fun yet?
