GM Retirees Losing Benefits???

Maybe they should have considered a Lincoln instead. I understand Ford is in better shape than GM.

I have had a lot of these people asking for a dental/vis plan.

Not sure what to give them, but they want something.

AARP has a pretty decent dental plan. For vision, Medicare pays 80% and the Medicare supp or group should pick up the other 20% for any problems with vision, glaucoma, cataracts, double vision, etc. Medicare won't cover routine eye exams or glasses. If their diabetic than Medicare should cover one eye exam a year. Most med supps come with a free eye discount program that helps them save on glasses and exams

I'm not sure what all of you are talking about.

My uncle worked for GM, white collar, and he "lost" his benefits quite a while ago. Not just dental and vision, everything.

I believe, if I remember correctly, GM offered him and his wife $350 per month to make up for it. As he explained it to me he had to take something else. He now lives in the country and a Med Supp was his only option. The person at GM was suggesting they take a Med Supp with MOO.

He called me for advice and I told him to go with their recommendations. I'm not comfortable selling insurance to relatives except my mother.

This was several months ago though. I'm surprised to hear that there are still those out there looking. I would have thought the "deadline" to do something would have passed.

Maybe this is a different group of employees.

Hi Frank, yes, this is a different set of GM retiree's. The salaried retiree's did lose all of their benefits this last December. What's happening now are the hourly or Union retiree's from GM are losing their dental and vision. They can keep the health coverage though. The Union retiree's are the guys that actually worked on the lines. The salaried retiree's are management/engineers.

Salaried GM = No health insurance, vision or dental

Hourly GM = Continued health insurance, No vision or dental

And let's not forget, Obamaman gave the union GM STOCK along with the mandate to jettison the car line that was profitable and replace it with smaller, more efficient cars that are not profitable.

All this based on the recommendation of a 31 year old law school dropout.

Of course the new GM CEO came from AT&T and (by his own admission) knows nothing about cars.

Change you can believe in!
