Golf and Networking

I don't play golf...I just caddie for my son, who is pretty good. I play a lot of tennis (still play in local tournaments) and the only insurance chatter is in the locker room after the match.

After matches, in the locker room, I never bring it up (insurance talk that is...and certain other things as well.).

Do any of you sell insurance while playing golf?

What types of networking do you do that is effective?

"Sell" is not the word to use. "Cement or forge the relationship" is what a day on the course does for me.

As far as locker rooms, in the 20 years I've been a member of Gold River Racquet Club, I've never heard a sale "made" in there.

The only men who talk business naked are either in the mafia (they like the steam room), or are in a really upscale whorehouse. I know about the mafia from watching TV. I know about the other venue from experience when younger (I didn't marry until I was 34.) I once tended bar in a bordello (not upscale.)

YMMV.

Did they have a putting green in the bordello?

What about any forging or cementing of a relationship in the locker room? :D

Read it again. I belong to Gold River Racquet Club, not Gay River Racquet Club. :D

Seriously. I know many, many gay men (not in the biblical sense.) There are straight nudists and exhibitionists as well as gay nudists and exhibitionists... but they are BOTH few in number. Gays are no more lewd than straights, but for some reason straight guys (especially here on the forum) have this idea that gays are always doing it out in public more than straights do it out in public... which is just not true.

A simple gay joke or innuendo, like the two above is one thing... and is accepted... as is a Jewish joke, a Catholic joke, an Irish joke, etc. We all need to laugh at ourselves.

But mean-spirited gay bashing is a favorite avocation on this board, which not only cheapens it, but says a lot about the intellectual level in this venue, to say nothing of the depravity level.

I would not be surprised to find that a number of the most virulent gay-bashers in this venue are latent homosexuals themselves, if not outright leather-boys or cross-dressing transies hoping not to be discovered or identified.

About twenty five years ago when AIDS and gay-rights started being written about in the mainstream media the gay community had a slogan which read "We're here, we're queer, get used to it." The "getting used to it" has not happened here... or in the rest of society, but like racial integration, it will take a while before the dominant white, Judeo-Christian-Islamic population "gets it."

If you agree with Jefferson that a new generation is every 20 years, it took about two generations since the civil rights movement to elect black leaders. I expect it will be about that long for gays to be "accepted" as just another "group," except for this board where it will take a hundred generations before the Palin-Limbaugh-Huckabee neo-cons here give it up.
