I just reviewed our personal lines cancellation list for our agency for year-to-date July 2009. All I can say is wow! The vast majority of the policies we lost were single-policy policyholders we had for less than 2 years. We lost only one very nice account (long-term home, auto, dwelling) because he was upset with us about a claim. We lost a few long-term single-policy policyholders. We're retaining business at about 92% if my calculations are right (which they probably aren't). And our policy count gets larger each year.
We don't do many things right now to keep our clients although I'm learning from 1manshow and warnerins and djs.
Do you other personal lines agent's see the same thing? I'm amazed out how well we retain business simply by doing nothing other than sending renewal dec pages and bills and moving customers around if they see large premium increases. If we work at it I think we'll really see some big improvements.
Warnerins, djs, 1manshow any comments?
Imagine if we had some good proactive client aquisition techniques...
