Is there a way to print - to - pdf and save the result to google docs? Or do I need to save the pdf somewhere like my desktop and then upload it to google docs?

You can upload basically any file type to google docs and it will translate it for you. Try that first. If it doesn't work, I'd get something like pdfcreator that installs a print spooler that translates the file to pdf for you. That's basically the easiest way to make a pdf.
