Great questions to ask a company in interview?

Definitely, ask if the job is a commission based job or a salary job before you get to the interview. Other than that, here is a list of some questions I believe are important when looking to land a job with a company or partner up with a company regardless of being a captive agent or an independent agent at least in my opinion.

Questions for L&H:
  1. What commission rates/salary will I be on? (Okay for indy agent or employee)
  2. Can you send me the commission schedules or pay structure on paper? (Okay for indy agent, maybe not for employee)
  3. Will you be willing to do pre-release agreements before I come on board with you? (okay for indy agent, probably not for employee)
  4. Will you be able to provide leads or at least resources that I can trust to get leads from? (indy agent)
  5. Are there any commission cuts/salary cuts if you are providing me with leads? (okay indy agent, I feel like a captive agent should ask this but only proceed with caution as it may end the interview)
  6. Can you provide any software that will help me complete my job or have resources that I can trust to do so? (Okay for indy agent, maybe not for employee)
  7. Are there any commission cuts/salary cuts if you provide me with said software? (okay indy agent, I feel like a captive agent should ask this but only proceed with caution as it may end the interview)
  8. Will you be providing training? (Okay for indy agent or employee)
  9. Are there any commission cuts/salary cuts or dues that I have to pay to get the training? (okay indy agent, I feel like a captive agent should ask this but only proceed with caution as it may end the interview)
  10. Why do you do what you do? (the reason I am saying to ask this is you'll find out if their why matches your why you are going to be in insurance) (Okay for indy agent or employee)
  11. After I become a seasoned agent, if I wish to can I build an agency or a team with you? (Okay for indy agent or employee)
These are just a few that I can come up with while I'm sitting here. Hope these help.

Those are absolutely great questions to ask when you are going to be an agent. Except the first, someone really needs to do their research before going in to know if they are interviewing to be an agent or an employee.

For an employee, by question 2 you'd be out of the running if the interview wasn't just cut short. Question 3, forget it. No way in the world an agency owner would hire someone after that.

Which also goes back to what DHK asked early on, what is this guy going after. L&H, great questions. P&C horrible questions.

Some of these are pretty good. I'm sure I'll use 2 or 3 about the leads and resources pertaining to cuts. Thank you!

Notes, definitely taken. Yes, I'm only on the L&H side :D I can't really give any insight on the P&C side. I should have stated that. Maybe I can go back and label some of the questions with the insight you just gave me!

I would ask, how many people you hired 5 years ago are still with the company? If they answer 4%, they are honest and continue the interview, if they say anything else like 110% retention and trips you can go on, loser company, dime a dozen. Now it is more of a question do I get started here and get licensed and move on, or cut losses now and run.

Yes I definitely thought about asking them how many agents have succeeded there. I also sent that in a message. So I'll find out soon. Thanks
