Healthcare Reform Not Addressing Litigation

It's amazing to me that Washington is still politics as usual. The original legislation did not address it at all and the new legislation only a bit.. and token. Tell me these things don't add to increased costs? Give me a break?

  1. Emergency room prescribes 12 tests (at $2,000 each) so they are not sued. The Dr. knows 2 tests probably would have been enough.
  2. Jury grants $10,000,000 decision against hospital group over mistake on the operating table. (perhaps a mistake was made, but we are human, perhaps $500,000 should have been ample compensation?) Skyrocketing liabillity premium is passed along to all of us
  3. 200 OBGYNs leave PA last year due to insurance premiums
ADDRESS THE LAWSUIT HAPPY LITIGATION PLEASE AND COSTS WILL COME DOWN !!!!

Litigation and related issues is a very small piece of the total picture, less than 1% of total health care expenditure. There are much bigger pieces to the puzzle that should be addressed before nickel and dime stuff.
