Help: Issue with Two Health Insurance Plans Listed As Primary

You have to ELECT Cobra AND pay the premium to be eligible and enrolled under Cobra. This is an administrative error on your former employer's part - unless it is their policy to cover former employees without collecting premium.

There SHOULD be no coordination of benefits because you were only eligible for 1 plan or the other. The old carrier pays for dates of service incurred while eligible and enrolled. The new carrier pays for dates of service you were eligible and enrolled under it.

You are not responsible to the plans for clerical errors. You are responsible for any claims. The insurance simply indemnifies you but you are still responsible.

The lab was in error for billing an obsolete carrier. Keep documentation of your correct enrollment dates and deal with it if it comes up. The lab will need to file with the correct carrier. Don't pay them. They just did a money grab, were paid & were satisfied.
