Help with "Your Insurance Office"

Thanks for the response Newby! You have my curiosity up again about ACT. I know it uses MS SQLserver for the database, and I don't know and don't want to take the time, to learn how to back it up. Do you back yours up?

At any rate, the solution may be the cloud for backup, and local for usage.

But I have really gotten spoiled by being able to hit Salesforce from any computer and any OS (just a browser).

Any further comments appreciated, and I'll get on their site later and look around.

Sure would be nice to be off the cloud BUT replicated across multiple computers. Technology continues to advance, so....who knows?

Backing it up is as easy as it ever was.

You click backup. It asks if you want to require a password for your backup file (yes you do). It makes a backup. You can save it to your desktop. Drag it to a remote drive or a USB flash drive and carry it with you anywhere. It's very easy.

I still use ACT 6.00x from 2002. Amazing, but it is still perfect as a CRM where you can sort/be alerted by renewal dates, track time & date-stamped notes, and all fields needed.

I save the database files on Dropbox that is accessible on all computers in my office and laptop. This way, wherever I access the program from, the files are always up to date with the latest version. The only conflict would be if the database was opened on two machines at the same time. This might create a conflict on DropBox with two changed versions of the same database.

But if you're the only one accessing it, you can use it from any computer you want, as long as it's one at a time.

Their latest software (Amazon.com: Sage ACT! Pro 2013 - Includes 1 hour ACT! 101 training webinar held weekly: Software) has lots more features, but I don't need it.

Sage Act! does have a support forum of their own where you can ask more specific technical questions:

Sage ACT! - Sage ACT! Community - Sage ACT! Community

You can download a free trial of Act! 2013 here:

What version of windows are you running that on? Anytime I upgrade windows it seems I HAD to upgrade ACT and then Word and then Paperport, etc.

Thanks Newby! I may give a try again sometime. As a side note, when the version I was using crashed (database corruption), unfortunately the backup was also corrupted!

I did read last night about their support for repairing corruption with no guarantees that there would not be lost data. Can't have that! So, I'll keep searching, but in the meantime, I'll keep Salesforce (cloud, ugh) since there has not been the least problem at all, nothing!, in three years. Hard to give up performance and integrity like that!

Thanks again for the advice!

Started using it with Windows 95, then Windows 98, then Windows XP, skipped Vista and now run Windows 7 on all machines. Sitting out on Windows 8

It has run fine on all of the above.

Good call on skipping Vista.

Has anybody used RadiusBob for med supps?

I tried it after using YIO for years and I couldn't get comfortable with it. I didn't spend too much time messing with it though but YIO has worked good enough for me I couldn't see spending $20 a month on it.

Have you tried using Joomla 2.5 and one of it's many components? Joomla is free and the components can be from free to a couple of hundred bucks..but well worth it.
