Here It Comes: Governement Health Plan

I couldn't agree with you more and sadder still is there are scant few with the fortitude to stand on and run on their principles. So there are few in any to vote for.

Until people want to study and understand the issues (other than what Michelle Obama is wearing), and the candidates, we're up sh*ts creek - without a paddle!

Democracy has some personal responsibility to it. Unfortunately, not many do their part.

If this were the 1950's Atlas would shrug however now after losing his balls and consuming too much aspartame it is difficult for him even to get out of bed in the morning.

The carriers are hoping for a windfall here.

Winter, I usually consider your stuff to be some of the more insightful material available on this forum, but this comment misses by thousands and thousands of miles.

The carriers (after today's meeting), and other stakeholders are backing up so fast trying not to get legislated upon they're practically trippin' over each other for crissakes!

Look up "running scared" in the dictionary - you'll see a picture of 'em.

Healthcare and Pharma are highly profitable and do not want government intervention and there will be very little oversight except some very visible periphery changes.

Care for a wager?

The socialist transformation only appears to be so it is not as it appears.

GM and Chrysler actually wanted government intervention because it was the only way they could keep from going out of business. Margins in the first place were razor thin due especially to legacy cost. They may kick and scream and feign that they dont want it but they do in fact want the government to bail themout.

Wallstreet wants government money because they have to find some way to unload these wothless assets unto our books and off of theirs. The TARP and TALF are nothing less than corporate welfare and the money grab of low interest financing vehicles is a boon to the mega banks. Again the lady doth protest too much.

Government in this country like it our not is government of by and for the corporation and the illusion of socialism is for the little people which includes the middle class.

Well there is theory and then there is the area where the rubber meets the road. In theory, places like New York and New Jersey will always be the home of corporate interests and run by those interests. Meanwhile, they became guaranteed issue states along the way that dont pay squat for commission and dont really need agents. Whether this is because the corporate interests won or whether they lost is beyond me. I am just a simply country boy who lives in a simple country state that has simple guaranteed issue. It can happen in New York. It can happen in Maine. Just be careful. It can happen. Could mandate happen? You betcha! Could mandate not happen? You betcha as well to that too. Tis the nature of a dogfight. And it is also the nature of a dogfight that both sides will declare victory in the end regardless of how badly beaten they are. When the UAW picks itself up and delivers its few remaining crumbs to its members it will crow about how unions have always been in charge and that this is a union country. Ahhh.....maybe but maybe a little less so. The corporations may control lots of this.......but....they are on the ropes. If they can get off the ropes, then fine but this is not a cakewalk for them. Plus, they have stockholders to deal with who might not have the same bravado/confidence that the execs do and sooner or later that catches up with management too. Refer to GM, Countrywide, AIG and so on. If the carriers get beaten down to the point where they are about to go belly-up and trick the government into taking them over, I guess they win, if you call that winning. Its about like getting a disability check from the government after they beat the crap out of you.

There seems to be a huge misconception that GI will ONLY occur with a mandate. I think those who truly believe that will be in for a huge wake up call next year.

I do NOT see GI coming off the table under ANY circumstance.

Pre ex will still apply for large breaks in coverage (maybe 6 month wait is my guess). Rate ups, waivers, age, and male / female rates are as good as gone IMHO.

I am betting money GI will be in all 50 states by 2010.

I hope I am wrong, but everyone is on board with GI with or without the mandate.

Do you think they might want to address the illegal immigrants that cost the health care system a nice chunk?
