High Court To Hear Challenge To Health Law Subsidies

Well only 85% get subsidies. Still leaves a huge market... lol.

But that's 85% of what demographic? The IFP market was 5% of America pre-ACA, and the CBO claims another 18 million may join it (which is another 6% of America's population). So, 11% of America at most would be in the IFP market. Truly a rich market for anyone wanting a slice of that pie! But there's a huge non-subsidy market too.

85% ON exchange.

And that number will increase after April 15. There are plenty of people on there who will see subsidy credit when they do their taxes.

Yes, to clarify my prior post, 5% of America is 15 million people in the non-group non-elderly market pre-ACA. And they say 6 million applied through the exchange of which only 20% were previously uninsured. So, 85% of those exchange clients still leaves a lot of non-subsidy eligible folks in the IFP market much less the Group and Senior market.

This could end up pretty bad if it gets overturned. Most of those people who can't afford the plans without the subsidy. They could scrap this whole thing up and go to a single payer.

Sam lay down the crack pipe bro....they didn't get single payer when they had the trifecta.....we had an election the other day....I don't think the winners are big fans of single payer health care.

It takes only four votes to add a case to the Supreme Court's docket. They may have come from the four members of the court who were ready in 2012 to strike down the Affordable Care Act: Justices Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy, Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. Once again, it seems, the fate of the law may rest with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr.

The question would then become how lawmakers would respond. States without exchanges would probably face new calls to set up their own marketplaces. One potential option is that a state could "establish" its own exchange and authorize the federal government to run it.

Yes on the first one.....my book of biz is in his hands.

On the second.....States that declined to establish their own exchanges back when are only more emboldened NOT to do so after tuesday's election.

Your right they did have the chance to. Fact is though if they scrape subsidies with those rates in place people couldn't afford them which will kill the carriers would have no choice to go to single payer. I hope I'm wrong but that's my take.

It wouldn't kill the carriers remember they have groups and other lines. The IFP market would be really jacked up though.

Sam I think you have false ideas as to what single payer really means..this is common. It means if you are an MD and you take a penny from anybody other than the Federal Gov you go to jail. The GOV Is the Only and SINGLE Payer. Ain't ever happening in the US!

Medicare is NOT Single Payer! Some Docs don't even take it.

About 5 months from now (March 23, 2015), this law will be 5 years old. I think America has figured out that it is not going to lower premiums.
