High Court To Hear Challenge To Health Law Subsidies

No doubt this has been a lifesaver. I have recently taken apps for people with stage 4 cancer too. Actually, the high risk pool was a life saver - I sent some people there, too.

Sorry to hear about the plight in TX.

I love TXInsurance's tongue-in-cheek comments! But I think Yagents hit the nail on the head where he said this is going to PPO insurance for the rich, and HMO-can't-see-a-doctor insurance for the poor, with the middle class being the new uninsured class.

Me too. But we (IL) only got a one-time $50 referral commission for those.

our state risk pool had high premiums and a 12 month pre ex wait. Can you say FAIL? We will NOT be going back to that system. No way. No how. Even republicans won't push underwriting medical plans again...

IMO, More than likely a 2 track system for Insurers..

1. G.I. = Higher Premium / No Commission

2. Underwritten = Lower Premium / Commissionable

Both will/should have optional benefits again, like Maternity. No telling how subsidies would play into this. For selfish reasons, I don't want people too attracted to option #1. ;-)

No politician will support allowing underwriting again. Remember the GI only allegedly works when "everyone" is mandated in. Without the mandate GI doesn't look so attractive to carriers...

Thats right!

Any politician that would stand at the podium and promote medically underwritten health insurance would be crucified.

The GI will work when the government pays part of the premium, just like they did with the state high-risk pools prior to 2014. From the high-risk pool client's perspective, she has Blue Cross and paying the full premium, but in reality the government is paying 30% to 50% of it.

Maybe this country no longer believes that people should be able to pick and choose what benefits they want to pay for at application time?

What about simply letting those who are sick, or get sick, buy into Medicare at any time they want?

What about simply putting everybody in Medicare and let them buy a group or indiv supplement or MAPD type of plan? Comes right out of the payroll check no more non-participants no more fines.

And be done with all this Nonsense once and for all!

It could never work financially.

Medicare payroll taxes are now 1.25% on both the employee and employer side and the Medicare pool of eligible is a fraction of the working population making these contributions.

There would have to be an additional, significant payroll tax to put everyone on a Medicare-like system, it could be upwards of 10% (that's a WAG) and would destroy the economy.
