Homeowners Insurance Carrier Say I Owe

I am an elderly client. I feel like the guy who just got mugged and knocks on the door of the closest house…only to find out…that's where the mugger lives… lol

I know, I know… maybe I should be more careful when I join a forum.

Red Blooded American – in a previous post Red Blooded American said "clients never know the right answers to anything, never trust a client!"

Joshb- the big "U". The only other choice for me was The states insurance and they are too high for my tiny pension.

What a system. My coverage is "bound". I pay for one (1) year coverage in full. And six (6) weeks later I get a balance bill with no explanation.

Jesse James had a horse and 2 big guns…you know the rest…

Signed: Just an old dumb a$$ client

You have to understand that with P&C, risks are bound before they are fully underwritten. It isn't the "systems" fault. What could have happened with Universal is that yourself or the agent failed submit proof of prior insurance or a HUD causing a "no prior" charge to be added to your premium.

fallonboy, we still don't know what really happened. Did the agent offer any explanation yet? Are you sure it wasn't a mistake with respect to replacement cost and that everything as you stated it on the app?

Also, if you just bought a house, I hope $9/month isn't really going to make or break you, even if you only have a "tiny" pension. On a related note and out of curiosity, why the decision to buy a house instead of rent?

Wind Mitigation Credit

Here's what happened according to:

Carrier's Underwriter – the agent miscalculated the Wind Protection Device credit. The home has both a hip roof and a flat roof. The agent calculated hip roof only.

Agent - "the wind mitigation inspector checked both hip roof and flat roof, I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused".

Sorry guys... this client did not make a mistake.

The wind mitigation inspector filled out the form correctly.

The agent miscalculated and gave me a wrong quote...in their favor.

I make a mistake...I pay. The agent makes a mistake...I PAY.

Gota run now. Still looking for a consumer advocate site.

FallonBoy, The agent did not make a mistake. We are REQUIRED to send the inspections in to the company exactly they way they are filled out. Read the inspection (that you signed). The inspector was not supposed check more than one box in that section. Pretty crappy inspector. So what you mean is, The inspector (you hired) makes a mistake YOU pay.

Why do you need a consumer advocate over $9/month?

The agent misquoted (most likely) and you ended up needing more insurance to cover your home and the carrier is charging you for that. Why are you getting "ripped off" when you're simply paying for the coverage you need.

You can always switch to another carrier and if any others would be more expensive, perhaps you're still getting a good deal.

Lastly, you're not a victim. The agent gave you an accurate quote based on the information he had and the carrier made a different decision than he did.
