EFES is not Travis and Travis is not EFES. You can partner with EFES without going thru Travis, but, I would advise against it.
The deal with Travis and EFES is a partnership. You would depend on EFES for leads and EFES would depend on you to write business on those leads. If you write business, they will protect your territory and do whatever neccesary to get you the number of leads that you request each week and they will do it at a pre agreed upon price.
You do not have pay for leads from your checking account. I pay for mine by CC. You can pay for leads from commissions, but, I choose to not do that. EFES has never once charged me for anything improper or that was not agreed to in advance. In fact, they will credit anything that is even a halfway legit complaint.
If you go thru Travis, you will have a weekly conference call and brainstorming session. The number one FE agent in the world, not just EFES, anywhere, is on those calls every week and will share his ideas and techniques with you and the rest of the group. When you throw in Stratos and Travis, two of the top 10 FE agents in world and you have 3 of the top 10 FE agents at your disposal to help with problems or just give you ideas that you may have never thought of on your own.
My personal experience with Travis and EFES has been exceptional. I have done my own mailers in the past and spent a small fortune them with poor returns. I have bought pre sets, I have bought dialer leads and I have had much higher contracts than I have now. I made less money with the higher contracts and paying my own way on leads than I do now.
EFES and Travis have done everything they said they would without exception. I started with them last Sept. after the handwriting was on the wall about the future of the MA business. I didn't do much with them thru the fall since I had a ton of commitments for AEP. They still honored my contract and protected my area because they said they would. I started semi full time with them in Jan. and did about $8,000 AP. I was doing more in Feb. and wrote $10,000 AP and that was while we were without power in Western Ky for 11 days due to the ice storm. I was doing only FE in March and wrote $12,000 AP, in April I did $16,000 and as of today, I'm at almost $12,000 for May. These numbers are easily verifiable. This production is on 15 leads per week. I do get quite a few referrals, but, I had to get in front of people first to get a referral. I am not a super salesman, in fact, I'm not good saleman at all. Nor do I want to be. I do not like to be "sold" anything and I won't play the role of a slick talking salesman. I do not do the one hour appointments. I believe in stong customer service and I try to always sell from that standpoint. I am not a lifer in this business, I have only been in insurance for 5 years. I did very well with NAA because of the steady supply of leads, see a pattern? I got away from NAA simply because the leads started getting harder to come by at the end of '06 and I was not into team building which made me an outcast with NAA despite being one of the top producers.
I got into the MA business solely because of the leads. I started doing FE to complement my MA business.
Now, with EFES and Travis, I am back to getting a steady flow of leads and I can do what I do best, produce. I still don't want to build a team and there is no pressure from EFES or Travis to build a team.
People will complain about the commission haircut for a steady flow of leads, if that bothers someone, they should just do mailings themself, more power to them. I've been down that road and don't want to travel it again. In fact, EFES gives you a wholesale writing number to use for referral or persoanl business that is not generated from their leads. In my case, that is 10 points higher than my usual commission. I never use it. Even on my considerable amount of my own generated business. Why would I voluntarily give up 10 points? It's about loyalty. They stood by me when I wasn't producing what I agreed to because of AEP. They didn't cut my contract, they didn't give my area to another agent even though I wasn't taking leads and I am loyal to a fault when loyalty is shown to me.
I am not a typical white collar businessman. I am a blue collar/union worker to my very core. I got into white collar business out of neccessity, but, I never left my roots. I don't do many big cases and I don't fit in with the rich crowd anyway. I'm sure I have to work harder than the good salesmen out there to get the same production, but, it's there for you with their system whether you are a poor saleman like me or a star like some of the other members of the team.
JD, with months like that and you describe yourself as a poor salesman, I'd hate to know what you would produce if you realized you were great at it.
JD and I work some of the same neighborhoods. It's very obvious that he is very good at it. I would have to figure one of Travis's best.
