Hoosierdaddy

Nothing like hearing about old stomping grounds during my Navy Recruiting days. Worked out of Paducah on Jefferson Ave by the fountain. We covered everything from Lyon Co. to Massac Co. in Il. Lived in Calvert City, 5 minutes from the lake.

Nice thing about all those little towns is that you can find some great diners for some outstanding chow. Especially the BBQ!

Still get over to Lyon Co. now and then since I retired. The one thing I did find interesting is that unless you were from Paducah or Murray, if you asked somebody where they were from, it wasn't a city, it was always the county.

Old home week?

Yea!

The reason I didn't say the name of a city 'tis they weren't none. Biggest town in my home county at that time was about 700 people. There was not a stoplight in the entire county.

XRAC,

Kind of like driving through Possum Trot. No matter how slow you blinked, you could still miss it.

I know what you mean about no stoplights in Livingston county. Logged many a miles trying to find some kid's house.

I will say though, I did enjoy living in that area. Some of the nicest people you could ever meet. Except for the time a gentleman came out of his house with his shotgun asking us what the He## we were doing on his property. Had an appointment with him and his son, but all he saw was government plates and two guys in black uniforms. Come to find out, he thought we were there to bust him for having a still. After he found out who we were, had a nice appointment and my recruiter and I carried a couple of quart mason jars home that evening.

Possum Trot, Monkey's Eyebrow, Lola, Joy, Iuka, Tolu, Mexico, Burna, Ledbetter and Kuttawa are all colorful names of towns down where I grew up.

I've got clients in everyone of those little towns, {spots}.

Hopefully you have got a GPS!

I never knew any moonshiners but I knew plenty of bootleggers since it was a dry county.

I do have a GPS in my car, but, some of those places are not on the map. I was in Muhlenberg County Thursday of this week. The folks had a Central City address, but, their street wouldn't show up in my GPS. I went to the computer and tried Mapquest, it wasn't on there either. I then tried my OnStar and they couldn't get me there. The people had not put a phone number on the lead card and I couldn't find a number for them anywhere. I went to the post office and the girl there couldn't find the address. I finally went to the fire dept. They were able to give me directions. It was 10 miles out from Central City and their "street" was a gravel road. Anyway, they were so so impressed with all the trouble I went through to find them they both bought a policy and then referred me to her sister for a med sup and to her son for a life policy. It was a good day once I found them.
