How Can I Be in the 10%?

You are giving this forum too much credit. The members with the most posts tend to be those who failed so they spend their time posting since they have no clients to see.

I see no correlation between post count and perceived value. I have gotten a lot of value from some of these members. Some with few post and some with crazy numbers. I get emails and chats from several members and I have even been know to help a bit myself. It is a rare case that I ask someone for some info and not get it. regarless of their post count. As to Rick, he is an easy touch for a free rib eye and a beer, also trying to learn me some of that medescare stuff.

Quit being so pissy, Just reset and start over.

That's some of it perhaps, eventually those folks have to go out and get jobs.

There are some folks on here that more or less write enough to keep themselves content and then mess around on here.

There are some folks on here who use this as a networking tool and post significantly to drive traffic to their agencies.

There is at least one guy who does well for himself and would normally stick around anyway, but people keep buying lists from him so it's only justifying spending more time on here, not to mention the free snacks.

It's a fun crowd and I like them!

Pick a product and become an expert on it before adding other products.

Think in terms of this being a career and building your own business. If all you want to do is "make money" apply for a job as a greeter at Walmart.

Learn to prospect, relying solely on purchased leads or hired telemarketers will break you financially before you begin making money.

Have the discipline to work at it like you would a real job, all day at least five days a week, six if you are just getting started.

Seek out people who sell what you want to specialize in who are successful and know how to sell it. Many offering "training" will only give you product knowledge. One can have all the product knowledge available but if they don't know how to use it, it does them no good.

Do not assign your commissions regardless of what you are promised. (There may be some exceptions but make sure you understand what you are signing and that it is in your best interest not theirs.)

The list goes on and on from there but that will give you a good starting point.

Frank has given an excellent answer. Has anyone observed that Frank never posts otherwise. However, to Frank's post I would add if it is at all possible find a mentor. Someone who can train you, critique you, etc. Do the prospecting, set the appointments, take the mentor along and let them close and split the commission. Observe! Do this until you learn the trade. You will make more money immediately by doing this then you will by trying to wing it alone. 50% of something is always more than 100% of nothing.
