How Do You Guys Just Knock on Doors???

"Mrs. Smith. I'm here speaking with your neighbors because there is an insurance plan that can not only help pay for your final expenses, but will also provide free life insurance for your grandchildren. May I come in for 5 minutes to tell you about it?"

So, what part of this is not ethical?

I guess I've been doing it wrong all these years. I believe in ethics and honesty in sales.

If you think what you're doing is not bait and switch, then fine. I prefer the old fashioned way of selling - honestly.

Rick

Either approach could work. The former is probably slightly more effective. But in either case you are knocking on a door.

I have no objection to door knocking. It's the approach that bothers me.

Maybe I'm the only one here that sees an issue with buying a list, saying that something was sent when it wasn't, and offering free insurance.

I don't sell final expense and I don't knock on doors. Maybe this is the way things are done and all this is completely honorable.

Not really, saw an AIG direct commercial just last night.. 40 year old male $250,000 of coverage for just $14 per month

No small unreadable disclosures on the bottom of the screen

Clearly it's a 5 year term, non smoker, no meds and in perfect health

I mean right?

Ever drive by a restuarant and see "Children under 10 eat free"

You think you can just walk in there with your son and get something free to eat for him?

Went to buy some tires the other day.. buy 3 get 4th free

Great deal I thought.. but it was selected tires only and you had to buy the off road service package...

Welcome to sales my friend

TPAAgent I am with you on this. The only adjustment in your presentation is that they have been mailing these cards out and they may have received one. What is your ratio of door knocks-presentations-closes? How do you dress?

Door Knocking still works.

But it takes up a lot of time and who really wants to do it.

We all want to use that easy button.

I tried it just once on friday.. I went to my MoO list, sorted by zip, looked for at least 5 people on the same street.. gathered up 40 names and made it a goal that I wasnt coming home until I at least knocked on 30 doors

Cant remember the exact number but I believe I spoke to around 18 people- sat with 4 and sold 2.. 1 was declined while I did the aptical- but I'm currently working on getting him through another company, 1 of the other sits I'm following up with next week. All in all not a bad day..made $425 on one policy and the one declined looks like I'll get a graded through Assurity so that'll be another $350

$775 dollars in 4 hours work...

I wear khaki pants and a golf shirt- never been a tie guy- in fact whoever invented that piece of crap I hope they hanged him by it

To address Greensky

I suppose I could say

"Mrs Jones do you recall recieving a card like this explaining the new state approved free grandchildren insurance?"

That wouldnt be lying, I'm simply asking her if she ever recieved one... I suppose I could word it that way... and I might from here on out

Extrapolate $775 to three times per week is $2,200 times 50 weeks is $110,000 which ain't bad at all. :D

Approaches are just that, approaches.... your objective is to get ATTENTION.
Once you have "their attention" what you do next is where we decide if your ethical or not.

Not much different than asking a woman "have we met" or "aren't you a model" just to break the ice (knowing damn well you haven't met, but I'd like to:biggrin:) as long you aren't "tricking" or lying once the selling starts I'm ok with his approach.

Approaches are part of prospecting and your prospecting goal is to gather people to have a shot a speaking to them, period.

What you do with your "shot" is where the rubber meets the road.

If a guy meets a woman from Match.com saying he was 6ft but she meets him and he's only 5'10 &1/2 ....after being "tricked" into meeting him she gets "the entire presentation" then falls in love and decides to sign on a the line which is dotted isn't it the same thing?

Rick:

We have all used a similar approach..but do we truly intend to only stay for "5 minutes to tell you about it"? We know before we cross the threshold that the warm-up will normally take that long before we even begin the presentation. So in effect, we are "baiting and switching" when we tell them this.

Louis

You are using an MOO list to pitch a Forethought product, and asking if they remember a mailing on the grandchildren life product.

Did Forethought actually mail to this list?

I stand corrected. I guess it's okay to say anything you have to, true or not, to get in the door.

"Mrs. Jones. Your husband asked me to come by and take this insurance application for you."

"My husband died 2 weeks ago."

"I know. He called me before he died. Sorry for your loss but I've been quite busy and wish I could have been here sooner."

"Well, if he wanted you to do this, come on in."

Any problem with that approach? Once the selling starts I promise not to trick them.

By the way, why did you stop selling used cars?

Rick
