OOPs, LEGIT!!!! There are many people that say they are the best at SEO and can get you on top at Google. How do you know if the SEO EXPERT is actually an SEO expert? What are some things to look out for?

Have them show you top rankings they have achieved for there clients that are decent keywords that get decent searches each month, getting ranked for extremely low searched keywords and very low competition keywords does not count.

How many local searches per month would you consider "extremely low"?

Needs to be at least a few thousand if its your main keyword on your home page, now sub pages with no competition I go after keywords with 50 searches per month but it all depends on the market and desired number of leads..

The best way to tell is to check out there work. Have them give you a list of clients they have worked for and then check out their rankings. It should be very easy to see.

though be careful, I have seen call center/ big lead gen websites hire seo firms that just set up spam links to get short term results for thousands of dollars.

I would get a few books on seo/web design, and join a few seo forums just to read the basics.

That approach will drive traffic, and if that is all you want, it should work.

But most of us want buyers and keywords that attract thousands per month will generate a lot of garbage clicks.

just resell those to PZ for $7 a pop...lol

It's a lot easier to talk a good game than it is to actually perform well as an SEO.

A performance based model doesn't work well because it can take months to start to see results from an SEO campaign. This makes it tough for both legitamite SEOs and those who want to find one.

This basically means that you have to depend on referrals, recommendations and evidence of the traffic on the SEOs own sites.

If he or she can't show you evidence of past success, then just say no.
