I ran across this survey in a book called Love 'em or Lose 'em: Getting Good People to Stay (4th edition).
They asked 17,000 people why they stayed at their job. These are the top 5 responses that were received.
#1 – Exciting work and challenge.
#2 – Career growth, learning, and development.
#3 – Working with great people.
#4 – Fair pay.
#5 – Supportive management/good boss.
Also, it stated that 91% of respondents listed at least one of the first two items in their top reasons and 98% listed at least one of the first three!
Pick a few little interview-style questions and ask your employees things like…
"What about your job makes you jump out of bed in the morning? What makes you hit the snooze button?"
"What makes for a great day?"
"What do you want to learn this year?"
These are great ways to find out what really matters to your employees and how you can support them.
You put a lot of time, money, and effort into growing and training your team. Agency staff members can have a high turnover rate and it can be extremely frustrating for you, your other staff, and your clients as well.
Take a few minutes and see what you can do to develop your team and keep them happy. It might surprise you how easy it is to fulfill their requests.
