I guess this is a general question.

Thanks all. I just went and got a can of Hormel. Started to get some ingredients and thought forget that. Beef dogs, top split buns and a can of chili. Done..

Ground beef, salt, pepper, heavy garlic powder (not garlic salt), light onion powder, medium amount of chili powder, cayenne if you like it spicy, light sugar, and lots of ketchup. Best hot dog chili ive ever had.

Willy's Two-Fer Chili (small batch)
  • 2 cans light red kidney beans
  • 2 cans dark red kidney beans
  • 2 cans petite diced tomatoes or Chi Chi’s chunky salsa
  • 2 cans tomato sauce
  • 2 cups catsup
  • 2 lbs. ground beef, cooked and well drained
  • 2 ounces (minimum) chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
That's it. The secret is to not spare the chili powder. I see chili recipes that call for a couple of tablespoons of chili powder. That's crazy. I use several ounces.

I brown the ground beef with plenty of chili powder THEN add at least a couple more ounces of chili powder to the final mixture, along with a couple of tablespoons of cumin. And I usually end up adding even more chili powder when I taste it.

Tip: Don't spare the chili powder.
