I must succeed!

For someone like myself, who is brand new to the industry, young, just out of college, very tight budget, etc... but likes this business so far, shown some success, and wants to continue....should I get a part time job that would guarantee me that small income that I need to survive in the month? If I went one or two months without that small income (no sales for some reason) I would have to quit this business all together. But is the part time job going to take to much time away from this to be successfull? I am getting mixed answers from many people and wondered what you thought.

This is a great question and I've enjoyed watching people talking out of both sides of their mouths on this. Most of the people I know in the industry love to talk about this as a business that you own, and won't hesitate for a minute to agree that it is a difficult endeavor.

But...

Suggest that since new businesses can take a long time to be profitable and so it might makes sense to supplement your income with a side job and you'll see them suddenly change their mind about how difficult it can be and start spouting off about how all you need to do is make phone calls.

I say, if you believe in independence and look at yourself as entrepreneurial and you need some supplemental income, screw what anyone else wants to think. As long as your part time jobs covers just the necessities it'll keep you from deciding that is easier than insurance.

A colleague of mine here in Gilroy started out doing group and working a part-time job to supplement. Part of the part-time money was used to pay for a 9-5 assistant to run things while he was working. He became quite successful.

I believe it is not a matter of if I will be successful at this or not, but a matter of how long it will take before I consistantly make ends meat every month.

How long have you been an agent and how long have you been trying to sell Med Supps? Have you gotten training and support? What are you finding is your biggest hurdle to overcome?

It is going to take a while before your website begins paying off for you. However, there is no reason why you shouldn't be writing Med Supps and cross selling FE now.

I believe Med Supps are the easiest kind of insurance to prospect for, set appointments for and sell. Once you have saved them money on their Med Supps then FE becomes quite easy compared to prospecting just for FE insurance.

If you would like, give me a call and I'll help you get started down the right path. I'm afraid that working a part-time job is going to make it even more difficult to begin making money in insurance. Selling insurance is going to end up being part-time and it is something that needs your undivided attention.

If that advise is open to anyone - I'd like some as well. Mind if I give you a call?

Ive been selling med supps for two months going into my third month for december. I have seen some succuss...lets say about 18 apps (with a very high 8 chargebacks) all 8 of the chargebacks were from apps taken over the phone. Also many of those apps were split with my manager because I was in field training. I am now out on my own. Thanks for the help and advice, I might take you up on that. As far as the website goes, I dont really expect any results for about 6 month. Right now, its just something I like playing around with. Well, I am off to 4 appointments to kick off my week! (my appointment setting is my srongest asset as of now)

Ill let you know how it goes!
