For those of you that are looking to get into the Insurance business. I have worked in this business for 12 years. I took a short break while I started another sales company in 2006. I started that company with $100.00, and when I sold the business a year later had 50,000.00 per year in residual commercial accounts. I returned to the Insurance business because I have a deep passion for this business, and love people. If you dont love people, and you dont have a passion for the products you offer then you will NEVER be successful in this industry. You must first believe in what you are selling. You must be convinced and sold on the product. Nobody will purchase a product that you are not sold on yourself. Now there a lot of things I can say here, and others could say that have far more wisdom than I do, but for those looking to get into this business should ask themselves one question.

What kind of sales person am I???? I believe all of us are sales people, but what type of Sales People are we? After managing a Final Expense and Cemetery Sales staff, I discovered there are two types of sales people. Indirect Sales People, and Direct Sales people. I refer to indirect sales people as order takers. The person at McDonalds asking if you would like an Apple Pie with that is an order taker. They work in indirect sales. The people come to them. The other sales person is the DIRECT SALES PERSON. It takes a direct sales person to be successful in this business. Can you cold knock doors in a subdivision, get into a home, and offer your product? A Direct Sales Person goes to the customer. They have no shame. They are not afraid of a door being slammed in their face, a phone being slammed down, being cursed out. REJECTION IS A CHALLENGE TO THEM RATHER THAN AN OBSTACLE. Objections from the customer becomes a stepping stone to closing the sale. What type of Sales Person Are You? Are you an in your face type, or would you rather be an order taker? Just saying.

J your 100 % right that's why the failur rate for the insurance biz is very high. To many order takers. But I guess we need them to do the service work while I sell and make lots of money.

Well someone has to sell P&C! Ooops did I say that? I am just joking. :D:D

I prefer to think of myself as neither an order taker nor a salesman.

I am an educator. By educating the prospect I can guide them to the policy that is the best investment of their premium dollar.

I love it when they are thanking me for spending my time to help them.

The most frequent comment I get is, "Thank you for explaining it so I can understand it. No one has ever taken the time to do that before", as they are signing the check. :)

Done properly it is almost like having a license to steal.

Add the cookies, fruits, veggies and plants to that, it make a pretty good haul. The occasional medicinal brownies i'll save for a different forum. California.

I get everything else but I don't get those, maybe I should move to CA.

I get everything else but I don't get those, maybe I should move to CA. All I get in Missouri is corn silk.

I hear those corn fields have a few weeds in them.

I have gotten Shine, Wine and Ammo also meats of all kind Venison, Lamb and Salmon. Back in the day even a few dates (waaay back)

This business can be a kick in the ass at times. I miss getting out to appointments, so I am doing more meet and greets this year.

Do any of you except a beer or a glass of Red in a home?
