Incredible waste of money at the worst possible timing- and ultimately to huge negative effect.
The affordable care act does nothing to address the fundamental underpinnings of runaway health care costs, choosing only to target the insurance companies, as if high premiums were just a function of increasing carrier greed - rather than increasing and out of control litigation, provider-side profiteering, and the belief in most Americans that we deserve to be able to be as fat as we want and just take a few pills and feel just fine.

19 - States where parents can no longer buy child-only insurance policies as a result of the law

Only 19?

I thought there were only a handful where parents COULD buy child only.

wowie zowie, Assurant will still let you do a child only policy If its SHORT TERM.... ha ha ha, another Obamacare health insurance mess, Obama's stinky poopie diaper

I question that number, too. Maybe it's because the federal PCIP program will let you do child-only now in states that elected to let the feds run their high-risk pool.

Yep, couldn't believe it either Bob, but called Assurant to confirm - and yes, currently they do allow child only short term - so sell it while you can.

Did not know that Chad. Thx. I have suggested HPA STM for child only.

now chad, bob and I will delete our posts so no one else will think to sell assurant stm for the rugrats..

Have they waived the "must have a pre-ex condition" part?

Good question, Somarco. I didn't know the answer, so I went to healthcare.gov to find out. Answer - don't try to get any answers from healthcare.gov. Their website is pretty, but stupid, kind of like a dumb blonde. I'll bet none of you have a website where you have to click through so many pages just to get to the facts. But, that's enough of my ranting for today...

Healthcare.gov says, "If you are under age 19 OR if you live in Massachusetts or Vermont, an offer of individual insurance coverage (not health insurance offered through a job) from an insurance company licensed in your state that is dated within the past 12 months. This offer of coverage must show a premium that is at least twice as much as the Pre-Existing Condition Plan premium (the monthly payment you make to an insurer to get and keep insurance) for the Standard Option in your state."
