In a can or in a box?

Years ago I started telling people that I didn't want any kind of service where people were said. I want someone to throw a party. I was telling people to prop me up beside the jukebox a couple of years before Joe Diffie put it to music.

Since that time I have changed my mind a bit. Cremation all the way! Who cares about a party or not. I know I won't! LOL
There was never a question that my dad's funeral would be held at his church, where my grandpa had been pastor. Even though it wasn't a Pentecostal church, my dad always wanted a "homegoing celebration" style service like Pentecostal people have. When the time came, though, my step-mom wouldn't have it. She was grieving and didn't feel like celebrating, and wanted a more "dignified" service. My sisters were upset that she didn't respect our father's wishes. I wish she would have done it his way, but like I told them, it's her right to make that decision. He's not here, so he won't mind.

My dad had ALS, so we knew his time was approaching. A few months before he died, his church hosted a special musical service in his honor, where different people got up to pay respect and tell stories about him, much like a funeral. We sang his favorite gospel songs and generally had a celebration for him, while he was still with us. He enjoyed it immensely!

My pappaw (grandfather) was a working man's man. He always wore bib overhauls. Even when he went to church, he would wear a newer pair with a white shirt and blue suit coat. When he passed we all thought he should be buried in them but they decided on a suit instead. I sure wish they had...

Back in the early 70's, before I got into the insurance biz I had long hair and loved wearing bib overalls. I was a redneck hippy.

howdee!

So did you wear a hat with your overalls when you started doorknocking?

No, I wore a suit. I went from a headband to a long shag. After a couple of months I got tired of my Branch Manager (my uncle) calling me a f*cking hippy and giving me a hard time, so I got serious and got a haircut.
I just recently grew my hair out long again. It's slicked down & tied back in a pony tail. Doesn't seem to bother my clients. But we're the age of our FE clientele now, aren't we?
