Info Meetings As Marketing?

Does anyone here give informative talks (mini seminar type) to groups as a marketing technique? If so what sort of things do you include so as not to sound like a walking commercial? It would also be nice to keep them awake.

YES!!!

I have only done one of these so far, and I'm scheduled to do another in April. It was awesome. I love public speaking, however, so my enthusiasm might not be shared by all.

I suggest looking into joining a local chapter of Toastmasters. They'll make you a better speaker, no question about it.

One thing that several people said to me after I spoke was that they loved the fact that I was informative, but not giving a sales pitch. They all knew I sold health insurance, and they all knew how to get in touch with me. But I made myself look like an expert, so they didn't think of me as a salesman -- they thought of me as someone who really knew his stuff and as someone they would be comfortable with. So the best way to not sound like a commercial? Don't be a commercial. Just talk to them, and they'll find you when they're ready.

I will be speaking at the Professional Executive Networking Group on Wednesday March 4. My topic will be Networking through LinkedIn.

I will be speaking at the Sales and Marketing Seekers Networking group on Monday March 2. My topic will be the Stimulus Package and its effect on COBRA.

The PEN Group is at the Ga. Dept. of Labor on N. Druid Hills Road in the Toco Hills S/C, and the SAMS group meets at the Roswell United Methodist Church on Monday mornings at 7:30.

PEN group meets at 1:30 pm

Thanks for the information souldeux, it really sounds like something I would enjoy - I like to talk! My concern is that being new to the insurance business my information be accurate and worthwhile without boring people to death. Toastmasters should be a big help, I will look into it.

Does anyone have ideas on relavant topics that I won't get myself into trouble?
