insurer trying to pull a fast one?!

But, why would I follow their recommendation?? They work FOR the insurance company.

Actually, most are independent business owners who advocate on the clients behalf.

They are experts in the matter.... plus its what they are paid to do... help their clients.

Even the ones who work "for" the insurer, have no desire to see the carrier screw over their client... nor does it benefit them financially or in any other way. If their client gets screwed over, they lose a client... and lose money.

In both situations, its in the agents vested interest to be honest and helpful.

Progressive doesn't employ the agents. Agents are self employed independent agents who represent many companies.

Absolutely not true. Progressive, Allstate, State Farm, GEICO, Farmers, American Family, and a plethora of other direct writers have employees who assist the consumer with the purchase of insurance. Those employees must be licensed insurance agents in whatever states they serve the customer.

Progressive and other direct writers do, indeed, employ agents.

Agents can be self employed independent agents who represent many companies.

Agents can also be employees of the companies for which they sell insurance.

Never accept the first check. Its always a lowball offer.

Go to a dealership, get an estimate, and demand that amount.

Be sure to put the insurer on the estimate, and give that to the adjuster.

SF offered $1k less than the dealership quote. They dont want to pay for the same quality as off the lot paint.
