Internet Insurance Leads

So, I decided to work a few internet leads this evening...

I call the prospect and I'm told that I'm the 4028th person to call... She continues to go on and tells me she's decided on a Humana plan. That's fine, but she continues to engage me, and I get into health qualification.

Turns out this lady takes a very expensive medication for an insurable (maybe) mental/nervous disorder, but the meds/office visits of course will not be covered on a new indy plan.

I tell the lady this, and she tells me that NONE of the other agents she's talked to have mentioned anything like this. She claimed one told her he's been in the business for 13 years! She told me she went through the same medical history with everyone she's talked with! I was appalled!! The lady has a $250 deductible group plan that pays her meds, copay at doctor, copay for ER, ect.... about $500/mo and this lady is in her 50's...

Of course, I explain in more detail why the condition will likely not be covered and that many carriers in TX don't cover mental/nervous.. period! She decides that it's best to stay where she's at given the cost of the drugs and the semi-annual testing that she has...

Anyway, I got an application on her child... nothing big, but it feels great that I truly helped this lady which brings me to my point...

Why would an agent try to sell a policy that will be canceled, best-case? We're not even talking about the type of legal liability the agent has telling an applicant such a bold misrepresentation...

The best I can figure is these are call-center agents incented per application... No wonder new agents fail working internet leads going up against scum like this that will say anything to make a sale.

Re: Internet Leads...

Because many agents get comped on submit and despite what you may think there's no legal liability. If agents got sued for selling junk plans Mega and UA would have gone out of business years ago.

There was a huge lawsuit against Mega about two years ago. Judge ruled that due to the free look they were ass out.

Who pays agents for Humana production on submit? Why the hell would an agent want to do this anyway? So they can owe an insurance agency $20,000?..

I agree that Mega and UA are here to stay, but I know of agents that have been sued, lost their licenses, etc. for these types of things...

It's sad how unethical some people can be...

Re: Internet Leads...

It's not about what's complicated or not. It's about passion and I personally have a passion for selling health insurance.

Is your passion simplified life?

Excellent move. Glad you at least got something for your trouble.

Re: Internet Leads...

Humana offers competitive rates and has adequate plan design, however, you need to look at their prescription drug coverage and the list that they publish more carefully than the other major carriers. There are several commonly prescibed meds that are not covered even in generic form.

I had a husband and wife, my first case with them, that were taking generic BP meds, that would have been covered on the $15 co-pay with AMS, GR, and Aetna. She called to tell me that they paid $83 on Humana. I called the carrier and they told me that the drug was not on their list, and it wasn't.

Re: Internet Leads...

You can go nuts looking at things like Rx cover and basing your decision on that. Most carriers use PBM's. H1 uses their own internal system.

At least they have transparency in Rx pricing. Something the other carriers have not done (mostly because they farm that out).

It does surprise me they would not include a generic BP med.

Something doesn't sound right here...

$83 for a generic BP med? Most of 'em (an example would be Atenolol which is generic Tenormin) are $4.00 for a thirty-day supply at Wal*Mart and Target.

Are you sure?
