Amen! Amen! Amen!
That is the best news I have heard in a long time.

Can I get an Amen brother?
I have been in the Med Supp field since 1982, it has been great. I have made a great living, I have great customers and great associates.
I think it is time to turn my attention to another area- insurance wise or other. Companies have developed a game, lowering commissions and raising premiums, developing new companies and recylcing them all over again.
Government intervention has started and is going to take hold tighter than any vise grip invented.
I'm not sure where my focus will lie at this point.
That article was written in 2005. The obama administration has not even eluded to anything like this being a possibility. If something like this does happen it will be about 18 percent cheaper according to their numbers but with a 3000 out of pocket maximum. If someone wants that level of coverage then I would offer them a high deductible plan f for even less than medicare extra and with a max out of pocket of 2000. My guess is that overall the medsupp will still be a better value even if it is 20 percent more expensive... Not to mention the fact you have more flexibility in the coverage levels you can choose with a supp.
My bad, I googled the topic and found a similar article from 2005. I do see where your coming from however I doubt that medicare extra will add more value dollar for dollar than a med supp. The figure I saw for a cost estimate for medicare extra was about 90 additional dollars a month and it would limit the out of pocket to 3000 a year, with a 250 deductible and 10 percent coinsurance. High deductible f runs about 60 a month right now and only has a 20 percent coinsurance, a 135 deductible and a 2000 out of pocket max. A typical plan f these days is about 120 a month, I think it would be easy to show the value in an extra 30 dollars above medicare extra to have zero out of pocket. Also in 2010 we will see the new med supp plans m and n which will likely provide very similar benefits to medicare extra at a very similar premium.
I'm not too worried about it... Med supps aren't going away.
