The more I think about this whole mess, I can't help but want to identify one underlying cause to most of it; a large portion of the general public is A) stupid, and B) does not want to be held responsible for anything.

Here are a few verbatim quotes from prospects in recent memory to illustrate my point;

"Pay for my own insurance? Why the hell should I have to do that? I got new rims on order and that's gonna tap me out!"

"These doctors are the problem...they want to charge me $75 to look and me and I know it don't cost him that much!"

"I keep hearin' we should live a healthier lifestyles, but I say why is it anyone else's business what I do? Abortions legal cause they can't tell women what to do with their bodies so why is this okay?"

"$150 a month for health insurance is way too high, dude. I'll just take my chances and if somethin real serious happens, I'll put everything in my brothers name and file for bankruptcy! Mannn, the capitalist pig hospitals have boatloads of cash so they can afford it!"

I know I have more, but meanwhile can anyone else share a few jewels?

-----------------------

To many to mention. Ah, what the heck, here's one that I remember from a while ago.

Ring
Dave speaking.

Hi, my name is Shaqueelica Brown. I don't believe in health insurance but I just found out that I am pregnant. Do you have maternity coverage?

Got another caller on hold, can I call you right back?

I burns me up when I see some people driving around in brand new vehicles, when I know they don't have health insurance. When they need care, they go to the local clinic and say they are migrant labor and get it for "free" (insert we pay for it).

I know one company with several 100 hispanic workers, that offered group benefits. They wanted to sign up all the younger hispanic people to help lower the premium. Not one signed up. Many said "why pay for it when it's free already? All I have to do is tell the clinic I work on so and so's farm."

I feel your pain: I sell Disability

I call the Prospect she answers and after several questions she says I'm pregnant or only inquiring because we're planning on having a baby this year.

Although I will inquire about other needs and follow-up later after the baby is born. I paid for the lead its mine; got to work it.

This one happened along time ago but I still chuckle about it. A lady called in and wanted long term care insurance now because her husband was going into the nursing home

Ahh I used to get those too. The old I need disability coverage so when I pop my kid out I can collect. Then of course I'll drop the coverage until I plan to have my next kids. What the hell are people thinking?

Ok, on your quote, "Some Will, Some Want, Who's Next?" Isn't it supposed to be "Some Will, Some Won't, Who's Next?"

From a call about 10 minutes ago...

Caller: You guys are the reason why our health system sucks! I watched Sicko so I know!!

Me: Our healthcare system sucks? The last time I checked, ours was the best in the world. This explains why all the Canadians and Brit's who have a penny to their names are lining up to buy International coverage to come to the US to take advantage of our top-quality care.

Caller: Hey, are you calling Michael Moore a liar?

Me: Yes, and I would also call anyone who watches his movies and believe it all to be gospel a blooming ***.

I so hope this is not your standard health insurance pitch :)....Did this person call you or was it a cold call or lead? If they called you or requested a quote why the frig is wrong with them tell them they can apply direct with some carriers for the same price they don't save the commission and can screw up their insurance all by themselves.

Awesome, after a while, one learns that it is a waste of time to deal with the likes of that guy.
Rookie agents will line up and step all over each other to try and get a sit with this type. Ya can't fix stupid. Next?

I concur.
That would make more sense.

What always amazes me is the prospect has no clue of the real cost of health insurance. They always assume that their employee portion is the total cost and they should be able to get a full blown health insurance plan for the same price. I used to work around the Metro Detroit area and get some of the big union workers coming off their company health plan which still had a $2 drug card, and a $250 family deductible that they didn't pay much for. They would freak when the COBRA amount was $1800 a month. I think the employers need to put something on the pay stubs that show the employer cost, of the benefits, just so the employees know how much they really are making besides their hourly wages.

Again, I agree with you. That would help the employer also. For the life of me, that kind of thing happens all the time. I must have explained why cobra is so expensive to people no less than 1000 times.

It was a referral (believe it or not) from a friend who's neighbor mentioned needing insurance, so she gave her my number and the lady called me. It took all of 3 minutes to reach this point in the conversation.

I think she was just in a bad mood and wanted what she perceived to be an easy target (Me) to get indignant with...regardless, I don't want or need such a person's business.
