It's No Wonder We're in This Mess....

I always ask people like this if they suppose they could buy homeowner's insurance...while the house is on fire.
When I lived in Virginia Beach it was amazing every time a hurricane headed up the coast everyone was calling the P&C agencies to try to buy homeowner coverage with flood insurance. To which they replied, we'd be happy to take care of that for you as soon as the hurricane passes.

It was a referral (believe it or not) from a friend who's neighbor mentioned needing insurance, so she gave her my number and the lady called me. It took all of 3 minutes to reach this point in the conversation.

I think she was just in a bad mood and wanted what she perceived to be an easy target (Me) to get indignant with...regardless, I don't want or need such a person's business.

Then I like how you handled it....I have gotten those refferals before...where the prospective client calls me and within 30 seconds or so is screaming at me because I mentioned it would be best to prescreen him so as not to get declined...oh well he would not have been a good client anyway.

Naaaa. The dynamics there are as follows, most likely:

She and your friend are talking and the subject of health insurance comes up. Your friend then starts talking about all the things that could happen without health insurance. Lose the house, kids out on the street, no medical care, whatever. The referral knows all of this but is a dud and that is why she does not have it already. Your friend cranks the pressure up on her to smarten up and get some insurance so she gives her your number. Then the dud calls and structures the conversation so that within 3o seconds you dont want to deal with her. Thus, she has accomplished her goal of making you the reason why she does not have insurance, along with your friend for referring her to someone like you.

As some of us discussed in some posts a few days ago, you get that crap all the time with life insurance too. The wife is worried so calls you on behalf of the husband to look into life insurance. You talk with him and find out in ten seconds from his demeanor that he doesnt give a crapola about it or her. He just wants to get the topic done with and to be able to tell her that he wanted to do it but you were an a-hole.

The referral promised your friend that she would call you under duress and she did that and now it is over with.

Sigh.

I think you nailed it.

I referred someone to the investment adviser we use. After finally getting them to take action and call the guy, they complained that they didn't like him. The reality was they really wanted to spend their 401k instead of rolling it.
