For selling FE, some request they want the info mailed and provide no phone # or apt #. If its a priv house I knock and sometimes they can get nasty. Would anyone not door knock a lead that requested mail info? I told her I get paid to give her the info.. I need to get the manager off my back , I drove 20 hours to see her, but no go. any thoughts on these returned leads? thanks

"I told her I get paid to give her the info" - Very unprofessional and the wrong attitude. It's not their problem that you paid. If you knocked on my door without notice then complained I'd tell you where to stick it.

"I drove 20 hours to see her" - What?

20 hrs to see her was a joke.. i told her i drove to see her to get her the info.. she wanted no part of it

I knock first on mailers. It is my preferred method.

Some people will say they wanted something sent in the mail. In that case, I hold up my briefcase (full of plenty of information) and ask them for more information on what they need. This usually gets them talking and that's what you want. The goal is to set an appointment - if they open the door right then, that's perfect.

Of course people will tell you to get lost, or to call them, or to send them everything you have. If I get such resistance, I try to qualify them and determine if they are worth my time. I ask questions.

If I get significant resistance, then I move on.

You should get a feel for reactions and responses and be fluid and respectful. I use the analogy of a rubber band - you stretch it enough to get the info/result you want, but not too much so it breaks. Of course some others, including former colleagues, will break the rubber band simply because they view a lead as all or nothing. I am not comfortable with this tactic.

You should also get a bunch of these in a close area to minimize travel time. I rarely drive more than 19 hours to knock.

These people don't have a burning desire to see you...The best you can do is door knock and ask for an appointment...The lead card they are sending back does it specifically list what would be mailed back....If not ask wht info they want you to give them...If they still complain apologize and move on...

For the record I do not work FE leads and do not door knock....You could also try looking up the phone numbers.

Another approach is to mention you just got the cards in was already in the area and figured you would introduce yourself (I wouldn't lie I would really be in the area meating with someone) and ask for the appointment. But realize people understand that salespeople will contact them and by not putting contact info on they are trying to avoid speaking with someone.

Is it really productive to knock on their door? Sounds like something a sales manager from 1965 would teach.

LoL its kinda like Mark Rosenthals Drive Bys post...If they won't meet with you then you meat with them as dinner :)

Peter, are implying that you have them for dinner? Is that broiled or pan fried? You sound like a cannibal!:nah:
Of course, it could be a joke that sailed over my head. I certainly hope so.

I would say it is. I spent 3 days last week working with an agent who has been struggling to book appointments off of direct mail final expense leads. So, I took him out of the phone room and we spent 3 days knocking on doors and he wrote 5800 in AP.
