Leads Vs. Directory Listings

Leads can cost cost thousands of dollars from companies like NetQuote and Insureme without yielding profitable conversions.

One well written directory listing can produce better results over time at a fraction of the cost.

For the Last 5 years I have run an Insurance Directory for the owners of our site. Over 2M visitors have come to the directory through searches done on Google, MSN and Yahoo. For Auto, Life and Health Google ranks us as the #1 online directory. We currently feature just over 900 agents and have a 78% renewal rate.

If you pay $79 for a directory listing and your agency is seen by several thousands consumers looking for insurance agents in your city during the year, then you should have a higher conversion at a much lower rate than purchased leads. When people contact you from a directory listing they are initiating the conversation as opposed to a cold call or email.

I would recommend directory listings for long-term exposure for your agency and leads services only as neccessary.

The number of prospects would depend on the city population. Cities with populations of 100,000 or more typically see between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors to their city insurance page. Chicago, New York, Houston, Los Angeles and Dallas are the most active pages.

Well, let's see...

So you sell directory listings?

It wouldn't seem like you would be too objective.

I do run the directory so maybe I am biased. I have seen agents spend thousands of dollars on leads that produce little in results. I wanted to make the point that if you have a limited budget their are alternatives to lead generation services.
