Today LH announced that they have completely removed the diabetes question from the application for their standard issue final expense policies. This includes complications with diabetes from diabetic comas, insulin shock, and amputations.

Do you think this change gives LH an advantage in the Final Expense Market? How many other companies have no questions about diabetes on their standard issue plan? And in your experience do you come across a lot of diabetics applying for coverage.

Also I am in California so any info about my specific market would be great!!

That's another advantage to writing for a Co. with higher premiums, the underwriting is more liberal.

Based on your name I assume you are a manager hiring and training new agents. Shouldn't you know this stuff?

I am not a full time FE guy and work about a dozen states. But I'll bite.

A typical FE client would be a 62 year old Female, $25k policy. If type II DM. Oral meds, HBP, Lipids. 5'4" 165#s

My California options: about 10 companies that run from $83 to $88. per month.

If the same lady above did not have DM I would look at other options first. Or if she needed more coverage we would look for std to tbl4 somewhere else.

What cha got?

I'll trade you my clients with Winnebago's on blocks for your typical FE client, LOL.

No advantage from what I see. Never run across a person I couldn't get covered level with someone solely because of those questions.

It was overpriced crap before this change and reamins so after this change.

Im in Cali....I would say 1 out of 3 ppl are diabetic. Now most have no complications or hospitalizations from it, but u will run into some here & there. I would say the companies I have that do ask about it, its usually not a problem if none of the above apply. RNA does ask if they have had insulin before 50, which with them, makes them graded....but I wouldnt go with them if thats the case.

I did have to go GI with a guy who had toes amputated from diabetes a month earlier. Could have referred him to LH.

I don't believe in making the healthy people pay more just so the real unhealthy can get the same deal.

I still have several families that I insure in East Oakland and Richmond that I will trade you. When I was younger I went anywhere, anytime. Now, not so much. I still go out there by referral. But days or early evening only. Some streets you still call the house to have them meet you.

Oh, And if I hit a pee couch house or a diaper man house I would be gone. ASAP!
