Lines to Offer

After many hours of reading I have come to the conclusion that many here believe being an independent agent would be a better choice than signing up with a company. I am looking into taking the training for licensing but am not sure which lines I should start out offering. I am in the upstate NY market (Albany area). For those familiar with this market, if you were starting again today, which products would you choose to carry and which license should I be getting first. I am sure to have MANY other questions. Thanks for any advice.
