Hi All,

Is there a way to find a listing of GMAs in CA. I have been looking at Superior Access and WIAA as I have seen them mentioned time and again. However they seem to favor personal lines as far as compensation is concerned.

The focus of our agency is mainly commercial policies (workers comp, general lia., commercial auto, comm. umbrella) as we have the book of business to support that currently. Any personal lines would be an after thought.

Our priorities are underwriting/quoting support with exposure to as many carriers as possible. Obviously the less fees and charges the better.

Thank your for your time and efforts. I already feel that I have increased my knowledge base exponentially by lurking on these forums.

I'm confused. If you have a book of business, you already have carriers. What am I missing?

For commercial, you'll have to be more specific. What type of commercial. Writing a doctors office liability is a different beast than writing a general contractor, which is different from a ping pong instructor using a school facility.

Also, commercial almost ALWAYS pays a lower percentage than personal lines, made up for in the premium volume.

All that said, you should be able to get a good start with Superior Access and perhaps Tapco for some off the wall stuff. Then work on adding things as needed for the types of risks you run into. Start working on some direct appointments.

Thanks for thinking of Superior Access to solve your client needs. Here at Superior Access we focus equally between PL & CL. If your interested, email me at [email protected] and we can discuss your specific concerns.

DJS,
Thank you for the response. I should have been more clear.

The book of business is from a previous industry and applies very well to commercial p and c.

The main focus right now for us is workers comp, and general liability.

Thanks again to everyone.

Which GMA's should we look at for placing workers compensation, and general liability?

Has your agency been in business two or more years? If so, you might want to consider Networked Insurance Agents. Take a look at our website to see a list of markets. We offer access to Sequoia work comp in CA, along with many others, including GL. Call me directly to learn more. Britta 866-704-6443.

Thanks for your response Brit. We unfortunately do not meet the 2 year requirement. We are actually new to the P and C industry and looking for a point in the right direction as far Which GMA would be the best fit for our commercial needs.

If anyone could provide a list of GMA's small and large in California I would happily do the leg work to see which fits our needs. We are open to weighing the pros and cons of any possible relationship to find the most beneficial one.

Thank You.

I had over 100 appointments in Texas and Oklahoma, and I had several MGAs or wholesalers augment my business. They fill the gaps where I had a need for commercial or personal product lines that most carriers would not write. An example was a security firm in commercial, another was rental homes in personal lines. I can cite more examples like liability umbrellas on top of underlying, dissimilar carriers. There will always be a need for wholesalers whose access to programs and carriers exceed an agencies potential for appointment to any one carrier. I'll save the Non-Admitted paper for another conversation, because certain types of insurance placement is done through consortiums like Lloyds of London.

What are the preferred MGAs for commericial products like workers comp?

Or an MGA for commercial products in general.

Thank you.

There are some agencies that will give you access to their carriers for reasonable splits. That's what I did and when I got my own appointments ,I moved those business to my agency. It worked well for both of us.Email me for more info [email protected]

Give Moe a try. Trust me you will not meet lot of P&C guys that can offer you what he can (speaking from personal experience).
