While some groups have clearly seen it worse, and others better, pretty much every group has been mistreated at varying levels over the years. I'm half French, and much of Europe and the middle east has taken turns invading us, and even today, not to many people like us, but they don't seem to have any problem eating our cheese or wine.

Keep in mind you are speaking of two totally different France's... the one of which you speak had all its "heads" of state.
