Looking for a Job

Thank you. That is the type of advice I came on here for. Evidently Josh wants to interview me.

Bankers Life would be your best choice, but I'd get a non-resident license and cross the Missouri border and work over here. I'd be happy to give you tips and help along the way, just keep me updated after each county you work. I see a bright future.

I'm inclined to agree with you.

I bet you'd be so nice as to not even request any kind of compensation or overrides either.

Such a nice guy!

:D:D

You're right, I just want to help. I would even have him give me the names and addresses of every person he writes with Bankers and I would follow up with them myself to make sure they are happy. Nothing would make me happier.

Such a standup guy... It is hard, even on this forum, to find people that would go above and beyond to the extent that you are willing to take it. :1smile:

He's probably going to need help finding prospects. Can you supply him with lists or leads?

I have an interview set with Bankers. First one tomorrow. The recruiter was very friendly and professional. I am excited to see what they have to offer. I am not looking to get rich just something to keep me happy. Our base salary in our district is $32,000. And like I said it has been froze for 4 years. Having gone through college and considering the money and time I spent on my degree, I feel as if I am working for peanuts. The education field was not always like this. After 14 years it is time to get out and try something new. If for some reason this venture to insurance does not work out, then so be it. But I won't know until I try. I can always suffer through another teaching career if I have too.

Bowhunter,
I just got finished reading a letter from my health insurance company, they informed me of another 9% rate increase ! This will bring my monthly premium to almost $1200!!

O' & by the way I have to fund my own retirement, I do not get the summer off... (Well I could ) And I don't know if you noticed
but the economy is not the greatest.Meaning people in general do not have a lot of discretionary income.

If you have a wife/ someone that can carry for some time that would really help!

Listen...You really need to figure out what you are passionate about in life and run to to it! After 22 years in this bizz I could list the pro's and con's and both would be a long list, but at the end of the day "passion" is what will pay the bills and satisfy the Soul!!

That's the misconception reguarding education, you don't get the summer off. We have summer workouts beginning the 1st of June. We play in a summer league for 6 weeks then several tournaments. I have been in education/coaching since 1998 and have never had a summer off yet.
My wife is also a teacher and is going to continue. I can substitute each while I begin getting my feet wet. I also will be recieving paychecks from my contract until the end of August. Financially all bases are covered. Just looking for something self fullfilling and something that I can go home feeling good about.

So you're required to coach as part of your job?

I realize you've expressed a lack of interest in hearing my input, but closing your eyes and ignoring the comments like mine isn't going to change your fate.

My curiosity really is getting the better of me. You say that you want something fulfilling and that you can go home feeling good about, but what makes you think insurance is the answer? What do you think being an insurance agent means? Why do you think you'd be good at it?

Being an insurance agent is *not*:
-Community service
-Easy money
-Something you can start off at part-time
-Steady money
-Full of opportunities for rookies to make $50k/year starting out

The learning curve in this industry is huge. If you're going to substitute part-time, it's going to hurt you.

Again, feel free to dismiss my comments as not being helpful and enjoy your interview with Bankers. I'll tell you right now that you're hired. It's not an interview, it's a cattle call. You're going to show up and they're going to try to butter you up, tell you how great their system is and how much money you can make. You're probably going to leave their with a pretty good contact high and then you'll make a decision.

After fourteen years, if the base salary is $32k, even with a freeze on raises for the last four years, between benefits and base you are going to have an extremely difficult time even matching that in less than two years, let alone doing better.
