Looking for People in Sacramento

I just got my license two days ago. I decided to take a chance and get my license before getting a job to help sell myself as "in it and committed to it". I am looking for a mentor and job and would appreciate any help. Is there anyone here in the Sacramento area that would be willing to meet with me or possibly has a suggestion as to what agency may have an opportunity?

At this point I have been going agency to agency but considering that more than half of the 23 I went to yesterday were closed and the remainder, save one, looked like crappy hole in the walls that were struggling to keep the lights on I would really like to get some suggestions on some A1 locations to check out. I am not looking for a referral just some good companies that I can attack myself.

My plan is to work my a$$ off learn as much as I can and save as much as I can, then move to San Jose and break out on my own so I would really like to learn from some honest and successful people.

I would also like to meet anyone in this area just to socialize a little and talk about insurance. Not trying to sound like a singles ad, I just want you to know a little about me so that if your a rowdy, party, user, abuser type you can skip me, because I am a former knucklehead party guy turned Christian family man. What that means is I am still crazy but don't drink or use, try to keep outta trouble even though I still talk mess (with friends) and sometimes get the urge to punch the occassional dickhead in the face. I like honest, good people with old time values who don't have to get lit all the time just to socialize, because I can't and don't.

Thanks for you ears...

Jerry

I'm in Sacramento... have been for 27 years. I think the area is saturated with P&C agencies. This is probably not the best time to be asking agencies to take you on and train you. If you went to 23 agencies and none of them expressed interest in another producer, that has to tell you something about the market here.

Not too long ago both Farmers and Allstate were looking for agents to take on an existing store or start a new one, but I doubt they wanted new licensees.

It will take you a couple of years to become productive yet you say you want to go to San Jose after that term? I'd advise you to go there now. My guess is that if you join an agency and they train you and you leave in 18 to 24 months, you are going to get one really horrible reference when your next agency asks the old one for a reference. Of course if you are up-front about it with whomever might take you on here, that might be a different story.

I don't know the first thing about P&C and if you were looking at the health and life area, I'd want to bring someone on who would sign a good-faith agreement that they intend stay for more than 2 years... indeed perhaps take over my clients... both of them.

I can't let the market or 23 agencies dictate what I do, I know that I am an asset to anyone who takes me on and will continue to fight on until I find the right person. Plus I see 23 no's as 23 bullets that I dodged.

They still are and Farmers was actually my intro to insurance but I did not go with them because their rates were beyond anything reasonable.

I hope it does not take a couple of years to become productive. I intend to attack this like maggots on a corpse. And I do plan to be upfront. Perhaps my timeline is off but I have to set a goal and attack, readjusting is always an option. I just want to get away from Sac as the heat is killing me, never realized how much of a weather wuss I was til moving here.

I am not only loyal but considerate so I would always balance my goals with doing what is right, if I could not make a commitment I would not do it just for the sake of achieving my goal and at the expense of anthers goals. I am a firm believer in the Golden rule. Even when I was a lowlife scumbag I was honorable...well in as far as the streets are concerned, part of the reason so many people liked me even though some of them were downright dirty.

p.s. al, don't take my comments as negative, I just have to fight negativity from jump as I can run with it if I don't. Optimism just helps me keep going and going and going and going.

Moe I will definitely give you a call later this week sometime in fact.

Thanks

Jerry
